Maybe if you post a little bit more info, like what distro you used, what options you chose and a better description of the problem someone might be able to help you.

ive installed ipc leopard 10.5.6 will all required utilities. ive got a vaio cr21s/w with core 2 duo @ 2ghz. 2gb ram and intel gma x3100 which is i think no longer causing a problem bcos i can now sort of see a screen after the apple loading sequence. before i couldnt see a mouse on the screen now i can. but the problem is thats as far as it goes, it should go onto a account creation menu if im right. but it doesnt.
i know i used the right chipset and all cos otherwise i would get install failed like in previous attempts. wireless and ethernet drivers are correct .
anyone with any ideas.
thanks

OK so the problem is after the welcome video you dont see the welcome wizard opening, but you have mouse cursor and you can move it, is that correct?
Sounds like a graphics trouble, seing a screen or cursor doesnt mean the Intel is working as it should. I dont have any Intel card, maybe if you post in detail what options did you choose in iPC for x3100 support someone with same card can have a hint. Also any error messages from the log could be useful too...

well i dont even get the welcome screen, i get to a screen where only a mouse pointer is there and is only moveable with a usb mouse.
i installed the x3100 beta driver that was available on the installation disc, but on reboots the screen would just fade out. so i deleted the x3100 kexts. even after putting the x3100 combo drivers (which i found on this forum) it just came up to a screen with a mouse on it.
how would i go about getting the log?
EDIT : i did a bit of googling to find out how to get the error log. anyway there is no error apparently. the error_log (correctme if im wrong) is empty. is this right?

You can see the log booting in verbose mode or typing -v kernel argument, and you can read them (booting from a DVD or from a Windows partition that can read HFS+) in /private/var/log/system.log or kernel.log

This is definitely related to your graphic card. Is it X3100? Looks like the system doesn't recognize your graphic card. Did you pick the right driver for it when customizing installation?
If it is what i suspect it is you have to bypass account creation loop you're stuck in and when you reach the desktop you will have to create a new account (and install driver for your card of course). Try to confuse the system with low resolution video mode to avoid account creation screen. Boot with -v and type (with quotes like here) :
"Graphics Mode"="640x480x32@60"
