I've been reading up for a couple weeks on OSx86 boards about installs and whatnot. I've even attempted (unsuccessfully) to install one of their distros. I was questioning someone the other day about his "hackintosh" and what distro he had used, when he said he didn't use one at all.

"No distro. Offical Snow Leopard disk. Just added Custom Kexts and Chameleon bootloader." - (and then directed me to this forum)

I'm looking to do the same, albeit dual-boot with Windows 7.

I've abstained from Mac OS as from what I understand, they have not offered 64-bit builds for some time, though the new Snow Leopard changed all that. I'd appreciate any insight that you all could offer with regard to my hardware compatibility and how I should go about getting started - tutorials, and the like.

My hardware:

XFX nForce 780i (3-Way SLI) motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU (Q6600)
8 GB RAM
GeForce 8800 GT

I think that's all that would be considered relevant. Thanks.

You cant easily install retail without a previous os x installed, so I would try a distro first and then build a retail installer. You can also use a boot 132 cd to install retail straight but unless you find one that works for your mobo itr hard to customize from windows.
Your dont list enough hw details but it should work straight apart from the storage controller, you may get into troubles if your sata doesnt support ahci or if you have ide devices.
