Keep in mind that Empire EFI only works on Intel Core 2 Duo , Core Duo , Atom , Core Solo , Core 2 Solo , Intel Xeon and Intel Core i7 . It doesn’t work on AMD processors nor older Intel processors and newer ones such as Intel Core i5 (although our Stormtroopers are working hard on this issue). It only works on Intel-based chipsets (i.e P35 , P33 , G33 , 945P , so on and so forth. For your information , Empire EFI doesn’t work on X58 boards yet) . Empire EFI works on laptops and as well as desktops (it has power management and battery indicator support out of the box for laptop users) and it has PS2 Keyboard and Mouse support for those who are still using PS/2 Keyboard for Desktop and for laptops as well (i.e built in keyboard and trackpad for laptops). For more details on installation , kindly refer to the read me file which is included in the download package. PLEASE DO READ THE READ ME , ITS VERY IMPORTANT !

Empire EFI for AMD Processors (Experimental/V1.08 by nawcom) (http://www.mediafire.com/?m5wzzwyfg4m) -- This is an experimental version for AMD processors to enable them to use Retail Snow Leopard installation disk. However keep in mind that if you have more then 4GB of RAM installed , please remove some RAM and be sure to have less then 4GB of RAM otherwise you’ll run into some problems. There are some known issues with Empire EFI for AMD processors.

This looks very based on Boot Think. I'm all for choice, but I hope this isn't yet a branching that will be abandoned after a version.

It would be a bad choice indeed considering Boot Think has no public source code and the author doesnt seem to have any plan to publish it.

Believe it or not , its entirely Chameleon with netkas' PC_EFI 10.4/10.5. I don't use closed source stuff. I'll be writing a guide later on how to make your own boot-132 disc for your motherboard and stuff :P

If you want the easy way out , give BootCDMaker a shot. A pretty good tool to make your own bootable "boot think"

I don't use those chinese closed source stuff anyway :P - Chameleon and pc_efi = harmony

I'm liking this as I sold my old rig and am currently piecing together a new x58/i7 based one and I would like to get away from the "install from Leopard" approach. Not only does it require you to install 3 times to get permissions repair right (last time i checked, it's been awhile), but it's not very good if you want to boot from the install disc to repair you startup drive. Pretty interested in the x58 beta you've got on your site.

I get a "Non System Disc" error message. Any thoughts?

Empire EFI is now updated to support AMD! Thanks nawcom and prasys!

What exactly that means?

We are able to boot from retail DVD and install SL without any patching or tricks?

Does it also mean patched kernel is not needed when this loader is used?

So does this mean that the mach_kernel placed in Preboot.dmg does On-the-Fly Opcode patching?

@Imkantus

It looks like it.. Wow, I wonder what kernel they used

Strange that thebig osx86 site is deleting all threads about Empire EFI, hope it brings more traffic this way

Who's deleting and why?
What's the deal with empire EFI, that threads should be deleted?

thats the $1000000 question innit, on insanely mac several threads have been blitzed http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=200170&hl=

Not sure if it supports on the fly opcode patching but it does use the 10.0.0 version...

Nope it doesn't do on the fly op-patching. Nawcom made a bit of modification to few of the kexts and the way how it boots. You'll be still needing Marvin's patcher after installing it !

@ Prasys, i tried the AMD version of the DVD, but it gives a error about the SuperNForceATA kext...
I think something went wrong when making the Preboot.dmg?

Could you give me your variant of your nForceATA. That one has been compiled from source code directly. Maybe the traditional nForceATA works for a lot of people. I don't really know paul , cause I don't have oSX installed on my AMD PC as its an ATI-AMD chipset and not nvidia-ati.

Well, they didnt wait a second - thread is deleted.
:D

Anyway, I tried EE, got Still waiting for root device error.
Then I tried booting with -v -f -s -x, I got KP sayin somethin about pmap memory.
Guess it's kernel thats bugging me.

No on-the-fly opcode patching and no support for 4GB RAM. Same old story :( I am tired of waiting.

@gorg , then you should start coding things up. A lot of things changed in Snow Leopard kernel. Again , it would be best to wait for xnu team or someone who is knowledgeable enough. Currently , AMD support is pretty weak . I am guessing slowly OSX86 favours Intel instead as now everyone is talking about going EFI , going Retail , etc

Well, all we need to get better AMD support is a better AMD kernel. EE is a great piece of software, but it cant do much for AMD users without a better kernel. I can boot retail SL dvd without problems with EE, but I get KP on booting.
I tried installing OSX SL on my system via 5 different methods, none of them worked. I'm able to install retail on my AMD system, but I cant boot the system due to a KP. No matter what I try to change, I always end up with KP.

It's not good that coders are all pro Intel - there is no challenge in installing OSX to Intel systems, it can be done retail and rather easy. People are looking forward to some SL distros that are being prepared ATM, but they will not do much without a better kernel.

I have no experience in programming so I cant help much with that :(
I have xcode, but dont have the slightest idea what do with it :D
And as I remember, I need a working SL to work on SL kernel, right?
