Hey Guys

I thought of making this forum a bit cleaner by starting official Empire EFI Support Thread. since the other forum decided to do censorship (hooray for the Great Wall of Censorship) . I've decided to come here and start a support thread. Its a mutual relationship , as in InfiniteMac would get more users and in return I can get to seek peoples opinion , and reduce the number of e-mails I get about it.

I do hope that the administrators wouldn't mind if I start a topic here. If a written consent is needed , I'm sure to write it in more

anyway , so go on , spur your problems or what-so-ever that we are facing to improvise it and make it easier for people to use Empire EFI !

I have been partially successful with empire efi. I use ati, and am just understanding the elements of staying the choice of ati. I succeeded with v1.7 and ati x1600 and 10.6.0 + your upgrade to 10.6.2! I've spent 126 hours trying to use other ati cards with snow leopard, failing with yours and Netkas' info and guides. I understand more on kexts thanks to you for your blog, but don't understand enough to make hd3650 work outside of 10.5.8 or hd4670 work in snow leopard. I'm not asking you for a hardware solution other than direction to a forum or irc. Please understand that as a neophyte that's trying to learn on my own, that #radeonhd irc and insanelymac are less than understanding or helpful. Thank you jmacie

@ jmacie - you'll have to follow netkas' guide and get his bootloader. I can't be much help as I don't know much of how these 4xxx series card do work exactly.

@ monsteroyd - try version 1.01 instead

@ InteliMacPro - I'll try to see if i can get VESA to work with gtx2xx series. Nvidia would be pretty stupid if they removed vesa support for it. I'll see if i can get some tricks to make it to work in VESA.

That's awesome prasys, thanks! Just wanted to add that the version I used was the beta for the X58 chipset and not v. 1.08 which may have worked with my gtx 260 from the sound of it. I might download the new version tomorrow and try an install on a separate partition just to see if it works. I wanted to do this anyway to make fixing issues like the sleepenabler.kext issue after updating to 10.6.2 easier. The version I had was what was up a week or so ago.

I tried EE (AMD version), and got Still waiting for root device error when booting OSX SL 10.6 DVD.

Then I tried booting DVD with -v -f -s -x and I got KP sayin' somethin' about pmap_memory_steal.

Guess it's kernel thats bugging me or?

Having the problem where SuperNForceATA wouldn't load correctly, leaving me with a still waiting error.
Hope you could rebuild the image with a 'proper' kext?

Yes , it works with i7/P55 . There is a special P55 version

@ ULTIMATI - download the special AMD version. That one should work and should do the trick

Oh there is anew version which I've uploaded. It includes fix for ATI 48xx card. I've included the new ati kexts ,so those with 48xx , 46xx , 47xx , would not have any problems at all

I tried the regular 1.08 version on a Gigabyte G41M-es2L with a quad core Q8400 and got the M.A.E. I then tried the version 1.08 for the i5, i7 quad cores and it booted and loaded retail S.L. I then added the nvidia enabler kexts and it recognized the 8400GS with 1 GB memory just fine, but I have no on board sound and it can't tell me anything about the ram. Will version 1.01 boot a q8400? What do you do about wireless USB network adapters? Thanks!!!!

First, I want to thankPrasys for his time and effort in creating Empire EFI, although I've yet to taste success using it to install Snow Leopard (retail DVD). I have the same motherboard (MSI X58 Platinum SLI) and CPU (Core i7 920) as InteliMacPro, yet I kept getting "waiting for root device" message. I've have tried every version of Empire EFI I could find. I've also tried installing from different DVD drive connected to the system via IDE cable and still stuck at the same message. I've run out of idea what to try next. Any help/suggestion is appreciated. :'(

i have successfully installed snow leopard with Empire EFI 1.01. Boots with the Empire disc in the drive no problem. I can not get it to boot with myhack, however. i have tried selecting and deselecting items in the setup program to no avail. Myhack screen comes up at boot and spins forever. I really wouldn't mind booting thru Empire, but i haven't got sleep working either, so the thing runs full bore all the time. Empire EFI is great work. i appreciate your help

Boot with -v and check where it hangs. If it hangs in waiting for root device. I want you to open Empire EFI CD , go to extras and open preboot.dmg , inside there go to Extra/Extensions and copy IOATAFamily and some patched kext to your /Extra/Extensions adn re-run pfix.sh and it should work. Most likely its related to your SATA kext !

Urhiness , I'll look into it. Mind to tell me whats the controller of your IDE. I do hope its not jMicron

bditman, empire eFI limits to 1GB of ram by default. There are few reasons why to this. If you want to get full support , install chameleon and prepare kexts and get it to boot. An easier method would be by using say umm myHack

I have an AMD motherboard (790GX) with a Phenom II 665 and a Radeon 4890. I want to try the empire efi 1.8 AMD version but I cant find information or guide to do it. Your blog address its not working, whear can i find information? Do you know if my system will work with Empire-Efi 1.8 AMD?

Well i tried out the bootcamp utility on your blog, and it worked at partitioning my hard drive wonderfully. I then proceeded install win7 and now can't boot into OS X :-/ I tried the original Empire EFI disc to boot into my OS X partition, but it's the wrong kernel. I then downloaded the new 1.08 with gtx 2xx support and it booted fine but then i again get no video, so the gtx 260 issue remains. Had any luck with that?

thanks pradeesh, it worked. i had tried pfix previously, but turns out it did not work launching from the GUI. ran it through terminal and now i am booting straight to 10.6.2
--ugh--somehow sleepenabler got back in there and buggered up the whole mess. i am going to start over from scratch and post my results. i didn't see that pfix installs kexts to extra/customextensions until after i started my re-install. live and learn

Take a look at NVEnabler thread over at projectosx. Give that a go , remove efi strings and let me know if NVEnabler does the trick for you. If it does then we would have a chance of getting 260GTX to work and yes. NVEnabler could dump your rom as well :P

Plus I've added a new version for AMD folks. Hopefully it works for them :P

ok, this is the 3rd time I've had to bother you. I still can not get more than 1gb of ram and 1 core of my Q6600 working. Because I can only boot with empire efi cd, or if I take the com.apple.boot.plist from the cd. I tried removing the boot flags maxmem and cpu=1. Tried removing, different kexts. Tried editing smbios, com.apple.boot.plist. I think I have a working DSDT. I just cant figure this out. Is what happens, is when I boot the screen goes to a blue screen with the mouse pointer, sometimes it will flash to my desktop quickly then flash back to blue, then black screen. Everything works fine when I limit the ram and cpu, with your boot.plist. Sucks not using all my memory, and other cores though. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Well in that case you need to fix DSDT regarding your cores , try doing step by step. First dont limit the ram and check if it boots. Then try removing cpus=1 limit. You'll have to do step by step. the reason why I made it such a way is to prevent crappy Motherboards with poorly written BIOS to get some weird issue. This can be worked on once you've installed OSX. I know DSDT is not something to easy to fix. On the other hand do give VodooTSC a chance , it might fix core syncing issues that you're facing as well.

@ pipko - could you use pastebin instead. I can't download it from rapidshare

I have a dell 435MT with 4850 Radeon card; I believe It probably has a Jmicron SATA inside of it because I get "Still waiting for root device" error; I've tried changing the ports around and still nothing :S

Any reccomendation on what to do? I can install Leopard off iAtkos 7 distro for some reason but this doesn't work :/

Are you running your drives in AHCI Mode? Instead of IDE.

The bios has no AHCI options whatsoever :/ I think it's prob. stuck in IDE.

i too have the same problem, even left it running for an hour, and i still kept getting the same message.. played around with the BIOS settings, changed the sata mode to AHCI and yet it didn't work.. can anyone help us?

EDIT: even tried using all the flags (-v, -s, -x, -f) but still, nothing

I am installing into a usb hdd ( it's an internal hdd and connected with ide to usb connecter ) , active , primart and formatted to one guid partition .

Well , did it install. Select the right options without anything i.e printers. The installation would generally fail , its normal. Make sure it installed 100%. Its because OSX can't bless the drive

MNG , whats your controller. If jMicron I'm sorta out of luck. I'll see what I can do. Please do let me know your controller

I use your boot132 cd to install SL, but i need to add other kexts for my onboard Intel gma950 and audio alc 883 to the E/E folder then rebuilt the extensions.mkext but it didn't work. so what is a proper way to do that. Thank you for your time and knowledge.

I got install failed @ ALMOST 60% , not all files were copied , I tried normal , legacy and ( lined ) ICH9R/M users version as i have ICH9R Contoller and intel G33 Chipset , Asus IPIBL-LB Motherboard .
I choosed only base system and additional fonts .
When i restared ( after install was failed ) i booted from the usb hard disk ( which i am installing snow leopard to ) and i got nothing just black screen , when i inserted empire efi cd i didn't see my hfs+ partition .
Note Again : I am installing to iternal hard disk connected via ide-to-usb connecter .
I posted a full summary of my computer by everest ultimate and attached it , it maybe useful .

noob here :) I used the legacy cd and retail sl disk install worked great. The only issue is my usb ports will only work if I boot with the legacy disk then select my osx drive in the boot loader. If I just boot from the HDD with the my hack bootloader my usb ports do not work. Is there something I can check to see if I need to install or flag to fix this?

@skew , type USBFix=y in Chameleon boot or add that to your USBplist. If you are not sure how to do this there is a how to somewhere in this forum

My work is being ripped and its being put on torrent sites without the read me. Making it hard

Here are the tips

1. Its installed , OSX can't bless the drive. Its normal , its not a real mac

2. If empire EFI does not see the partition. It means your BIOS refuses to pass over the USB controller or some sort. Try to connect it to your motherboard. Make it internal , not USB , or any sort.

1. it's installed ! when i try again and open disk utility i see that the used space is only 5 GB , not all files were copied .

2. ok , i tried but it seems like my mobo doesn't have ide connecters for the hard disk ( they are all sata ) , i'll ask you a question : if i bought internal sata hard disk and connected it as slave ( my current hard disk is master ) will empire efi read it and install will succees ? please answer me ASAP /

Hi prasys, thanks for your great EmpireEFI. I was able to successfully install the x58 version and it works about 95% which I am happy with. I was wondering if you could help me figure out why after I install the myhack package everything goes bad, the only thing that works good after the myhack is I am able to access my ntfs drives, with the plain x58 install I cant access my drives. If I dont install the myhack, OSX wont boot automatically and I have to run the EmpireEFI cd everytime to boot into OSX.

Is there anyone who can help me???? Since Friday I own a HP DV8-1080, fast machine however very very though to get SL installed.

Tried everything but unfort. without success. Finally I came across Empire EFI which helped me install SL however I cannot but into SL (System installed from retail DVD with any errors)

On booting I do get a kernel panic (boot options: cpus=1 busratio=20), with the following extensions in the backtrace:

- AppleAPIC
- PS2Controller
- AppleACPIPlatform
dependency IOACPIFamily enIOPCIFamily

Anyone who can help?????

Well, i tried with the legacy issue.
My chipset is an Intel G33, as far as i know its supported, but there are no advanced options about drives in my bios(blame Dell...).

I'm sorta out of luck, or is there a way to get passed the error?

Swapped my harddrive from SATA port 0 to 1, but that didn't help.

Hey I also Ran into this same error last night Im using the latest Empire EFI 1.08 on a Asus P5W DH Deluxe. It let me format my drives but got to about 30% before it failed. Hey Prasys on your blog you say to try a different verison of the EFI if one doesn't work, I want to try the 1.01 version because thats the version that someone used in a guide that Im using and it worked for them. But on your site the link to rapidshare is down is there some way I can get the 1.01 from you or is there another place I can download it to see if it works?

I just finally installed, iPC 10.5.6. Final w/PPF patch v1.1. Success. I updated the bootloader to the Chameleon 2 RC4 build 648 last nite, and then ran across a thread from Shadow, referencing EmpireEFI, plus someone that works for the 'other' OS vendor had mentioned using EFI to install S.L. 10.6. I thought, wow, that's beyond me because I have a nForce430 MCP61 chipset and AMD Phenom X3 8400. This was the prevailing thought, when I first attempted installing iDeneb 10.5.x and iATKOS v7, which I could not get to work on my system. Then after reading a few days of other information and re-reading HCL for each updated version of Leo, I thought, I have to try another version, iPC worked for me, but had to try many patches before getting to actually run right. Not to confuse the real issue, for posting.

The problem I run into is updating to 10.5.8 combo Mac update. I've read over Netkas's guides. I would assume to use both 10.5.7 and 10.5.8 because I'm attempting 10.5.6 to 10.5.8 without 10.5.7. So skipping one because 10.5.8 is out and would be preferred by me.

After reading your blogsite briefly scanning the important parts, especially for me because I'm interested in updating without having to patch this and that, backup these /System/Library/Extension and then copy them back overwriting something I could use, plus the voodoo1 kernel 9.5. I wanted a simple solution.

According to your work, (this based it seems on Sno Leo) your application would take care of all the passing data to Apple without all these headaches and stuff.

Would your application work in my case to update iPC 10.5.6 to Mac Combo Udate 10.5.8?

I have the above hardware. v1.08 gives errors such as Voodoo wont load.
the v1.02 x58 does better, loads fakesmc, but then states 'waiting for boot volume with UUID .....' but appears to move on with ".com.apple.AppleFSCCompressionTypeZlib load succeeded "
finally though I am left with "Still waiting for rood device" which gets repeated forever.
I saw your information suggesting changing the SATA drive in the setup. My hard disk is SATA 1, I don't see how to change it in the BIOS setup.
Any advice?

I also tried Boot CD 10-11-12h45.iso (the newest version, beta version) The final error messages are :
USBF: 5.635 AppleUSBUHCI[0X58EC000]::start unable to initialize UIM
Still waiting for root device

These errors occur after I have tried to boot from the Mac OS SL retail disc.

I had this same issue. I think it is from the cmos checksum error due to booting with an unpatched DSDT. I had to do a power down, cmos reset, re-enable my cmos settings (save these on paper). And the memory allocation problem went away.

I apologize if this is covered elsewhere, I did a search, but was unsure of what subject specifically to search for in this case.

I have a dual HDD system with Windows on one and Snow Leopard on the other. I am booting off of the Empire EFI CD.

I have installed a new video card and as a result I have updated com.apple.Boot.plist that I need to modify on my EFI CD. However, now when I take the 2 updated file folders and make them into an ISO file and burn them to a CD, I am not able to boot from the CD, it always goes directly into windows instead of the EFI menu.

What step have I missed? I have used 2 different windows based ISO creators and I am burning the ISO disk using Roxio.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hey- great work...

Couple issues/questions:

I have one internal drive on my sony vaio (i know they can have issues), and I need to install SL on one partition and Win7 on another.

I tried the SL installation on a separate hfs+ journaled partition but it had to be GUID not MBR (as opposed to my kalyway 10.5.2 I had)....and disk utility would not be able to change the partition to GUID w/o altering the whole HD.

What is the best way to install SL so I can run it in a dual boot mode with windows 7? I will have a USB 8 gig stick if that helps, and will have another USB HD handy as well (blank but wish to eventually use it for shared files w/o OS)

Concerns: Installing SL/WIndows in MBR/GUID...I have only one hard drive to create 2 partitions...from my understanding, an entire disk must be MBR or GUID...

I still have the 10.5.2 kalyway disc if its easier to install this way...

Hey! I tried empire efi 1.08 today, both legacy and normal and it saw the drive as HD. I don't have ACHI mode on my bios if im right. I got AMI bios. So what I should do, got intel core 2 duo processor, nvidia 8800gt. Should I maybe try older version or something?

I had great success with the hardware in my sig. Only thing was i had no video using the gtx260 so i had to put in my old 8800gs for the install and then swap in the gtx260 and follow PCwiz's guide to get it working. If we can find a way to get the gtx260 working in vesa for the install it would be awesome. Swapping it out sucks.

hi do you have any suggestion of any other way to install using my gtx260?
after putting in the snow leopard disk and after sometime, my screen turned black.. any solution for this? thanks

I don't but I've been meaning to get my dsdt and video bios dump to Prasys to try and get it working using the boot disc. I looked into it awhile back but didn't get very far. I'll do that this weekend.

Ok Prasys, I'm working on that NVEnabler thing. Let me know if you still need that and my dsdt. I'm assuming I need to take out the graphicsenabler option in chameleon to use the enabler, correct? I don't have any other injectors or efi strings that i know of.

Also wanted to add that I tried booting using 1.085 and it shuts my computer down right before the OS loads. FIrst one that hasn't worked for me (other than the gtx260 issue, of course).

I can burn the modified files onto a CD, it just will never boot when I do.

I apologize if this is covered elsewhere, I did a search, but was unsure of what subject specifically to search for in this case.

I have a dual HDD system with Windows on one and Snow Leopard on the other. I am booting off of the Empire EFI CD.

I have installed a new video card and as a result I have updated com.apple.Boot.plist that I need to modify on my EFI CD. However, now when I take the 2 updated file folders and make them into an ISO file and burn them to a CD, I am not able to boot from the CD, it always goes directly into windows instead of the EFI menu.

What step have I missed? I have used 2 different windows based ISO creators and I am burning the ISO disk using Roxio.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Either you are making a data cd or the writing software is messing up. I stay clear of roxio anything, but that is just me, Try imgburn from imgburn.com. It worked great for me. an ISO is a disk image, so when you look at the cd after burning, do you see the .iso file? if so, that is a data cd - not what you want. after burning the .iso you should see what was inside the .iso on the cd. Make sense?

To answer your other question, after burning, I see the exact same thing that appears on my working CD, before making changes.

I'm using the "Empire V1.08 (for ATI 48xx series graphics card and nVidia GeForce GTX2xx series along with support for i5/i7 8xx series and P55 chipset)" version of Empire EFI, but I get a kernel panic immediately after all the kexts from the DVD load. Booting with cpus=1 -f -v -x and maxmem=1024 doesn't help at all.

Hi there,

I am getting an error message after the installation started and wondering if it has something to do with the Empire Efi version, the BIOS settings or my SL installation disk.

The message is "The installer could not copy the necessary support files".
In the installer log: "Failed to verify BaseSystem.pkg". It tries three times and than abort the installation.
A couple of tries before it stopped at verifying the BSD.pkg package.

Im tried the installation with the DVD, but got only Ebios timeout errors, so now I am using Empire Efi and an USB-stick.

The installation hard drive is partitioned and formatted as it is supposed to be.
I also tried copying the packages to the installation disk myself, but still getting the "failed to verify" message.

I tried the earlier Empire Efi versions but got nowhere with them. Just the latest update (empire efi V1085 for intel core processors) brought me to the installation screen, but not any further. I tried the legacy version too.

I also read that I should remove some RAM and so I did. Tried with 8GB, 6GB, 4GB, 2GB, used different slots and so on - didn�t work.

Here my hardware specs:

Intel� Core 2 Quad Q9400 4x 2,67GHz 6MB Cache 45nm
nVIDIA GeForce 9800GT 512MB

Prasys, I've been using NVEnabler for awhile now and it seems to be working great. I disabled graphics enabler in my extras boot.plist and it is working better with nvenabler. Using graphicsenabler=y my hdmi input wouldn't work, but it does using nvenabler. I now want to create a custom empire efi disk including nvenabler and the new chameleon rc4 with integrated restart/hardware detection etc. I'll be looking into doing that but if somebody can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. Also, if anybody has any idea why 1.085 causes my computer to shut down right before the desktop comes up please let me know.

I am trying to load Snow Leopard on my PC using Empire EFI

I get the EFI screen showing the HDD's, insert OSx disk in drive and press F5 to continue, but nothing happens.

Initially I get icons representing the EFI CD, and my HDD's with W7 and Vista on it but not the blank drive.

Then when I insert the OSx DVD and press F5, after about 2 minutes I get Icons for all the HDD's inc the blank drive but I cannot select the blank drive and the CD icon has disappeared!

any ideas?

My hardware would be:

* CPU | Intel Pentium D 3.0 GHz
* RAM | 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
* GPU | Nvidia Geforce 8600 GT 512 MB

So, at first I tried the regular V1.08 and I got the sweet "Memory allocation error".
Then I thought, why not try the Legacy Version for once. And, in fact: The boot menue came up successfully and I changed the disk in the drive.
Fenomenal, even that one was regocnized. With full motivation I chose the disk on the screen ... and then ... well ... BAAAAM! ... the PC just simply rebooted. A very warm welcome to Windows XP. Woohooo. Well, that wasn't quite what I expected...

I hope at least someone of you got an idea, how I'd get on.

Ok I have progressed a little further... it is all in the timing!!

You MUST wait 10 -20 seconds before loading the SL disk after ejecting the Empire EFI disk.

You MUST wait the 30 -60 seconds before hitting the F5 key after loading the SL disk.

failure to do so caused system hangs requiring reboots

Now I am getting the Mac OS to start loading then gets to a point where its says "still waiting for root device"

I am now trying to tweak the bios to get things to progress...

BTW my system specs are:-

* Mainboard | GA EP35-DS3R Ver: 2.1
* CPU | Intel E8400
* RAM | 4 GB Kingston HyperX PC6400
* GPU | ATI HD4850 512MB

ok...i almost been able to install with 1.085

the two version for amd of 1.08 did not work for me...(waiting for root device).

im able to partiotion in guid
and install up to a point(the blue blue bar goes up to the middle).
then it stops and says install failed.

from there i dont know how to help you or get the crash report or what ever you need...youll have to have patient and help please.

Waiting for root device error only affects married HDD's... :D

Make sure you have AHCI set in your bios... Pretty sure that resolved my "waiting for root device" error but cause BSOD with my Win installs..

had to "fix" that with a registry edit... post if you need details

I now have a bootable SL OS but no sound, sleep lock ups, and basic VGA resolution... still working on it though.

Hello guys, first time poster here. So I attempted to install SL10.62 using EFI Empire 1.85RC2 and the x58-patched version 1.06. I've tabbed after detecting the disk, and added GraphicsEnabler=Y PciRoot=0 on the 1.85, and also tried -pci0 with the 1.06 x58-patched. However both disks gives me the same results. I also enabled AHCI.

At the end, I get an error message stating:
"Patched DMI Table
ACPI Table not Found: DSDT.aml
Starting Darwin x86
Press any Key to Continue...."

Upon pressing that I get to a screen..attached picture link (http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/8582/dsc0011xi.jpg)...

It would be great if you could help me!

I tried empire EFI per your suggestion in the other thread, using the latest one on his site (1.085) and I get this exact problem. Seems to install fine (I do get the install failed but that's supposed to happen), then when I restart and boot from the disc and select my installed HD, it says some stuff and shuts down the computer.

edit:

that said, GraphicsEnabler=Y PciRoot=0 does let me use my gtx260 to run the installer.

Also I just realized I tried with the standard release instead of the R2. Going to try the R2 now.

R2 worked, I managed to successfully install SL.

Now I'm having a helluva time getting it to boot normally. I tried to switch my refresh rate in System Preferences to 120hz (I have a 120hz monitor which is great but not so much if it won't be using 120hz), but when I clicked to apply the screen went all crazy with static and I had to reboot. Now it will only boot from Empire EFI in safe mode.

I have installed Chameleon rc4 and I can get it to start booting from the HD, but it hangs at something about AppleRTL8169Ethernet: phyWaitForAutoNegotiation TIMEOUT, sometimes adding NVDA50 something or other.

So for now I am stuck booting in safe mode from a CD but at least it's running.

Yeah I'd leave it at 60hz. I think it mentions it in the first post but there's a site called kexts.com or something like that where you can find a kext to get your internet working.not sure why it's giving you a kp unless you installed conflicting kexts. Internet worked oob on mine, but I needed a lexy to get bonjour working. If you installed a networking kext try it again with vanilla and see if it kp's on you. Safe mode's a good start though. Nice work.

First off, I'm not even sure how to begin my process here. I've downloaded Empire EFI, and several kexts as have been suggested for my setup, but that's about as far as it gets.

When I burn the ISO onto a disk, and I run EFI. Loads, put in my retail 10.6 disk, Darwin loads, then, almost instantly I get kernel panic.

i tried a lot with this Empire Efi but nothing worked for me, i tried v1.08, v1.085 and even the modified tuned version for x58 motherboards but still no result
when i say no result, i mean it gets stuck with a message that says:
'Still waiting for root device'

anyone have any idea what to do here? i'm stumped :mad:

I'm installing OS:X with Empire Efi and when it finally is at 100 % it says it can't restart the disk and that I have to manually use StartUp disk tool.

In this tool I get this error:

The bless tool was unable to set the current boot disk

I'm using the latest one (the second AMD version on the page) and a 10.6 retail install DVD on a Phenom II X4 940, with 8gb of RAM. I'm getting a kernel panic. EmpireEFI works fine but when I put my disk in and boot it up it goes to a kernel panic without any kind of graphical screen. I also have a phenom II 940 BE with 4gb of ram on a Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-US2H mb. I have my mb set to ahci mode with a sata dvd drive. I have PATA disabled in the bios. I am getting this error. I used the 1.085r2 of empire efi. Once I press any key after empire efi is ready to launch from the 10.6 installation disc i get this error.

I am using the 10.85r2 i7 version of Empire EFI.

All is working for me.Originally built my system with a ide dvd drive and could not boot. empire efi boots fine for me via sata and usb dvd.

Hi guys ,

i am using empire efi , i have tried all the versions of empire efi for Core 2 duo
( Total of 4)
including the legacy , i have used much CDs!

Specifications :
HP DV4 1301TX
4GB DDR2 RAM
G105 NIVIDIA GRAPHICS
CORE 2 DUO 2.4GHZ

Bios : insyde Bios (does not allow me to change HDD setting from SATA to AHCI mode- NOT SURE IF THIS STEP IS NEEDED)

no problem booting SL DVD ,
PROBLEM : when installing halfway the installation just hangs and told me it fails , i can hear the disc drive not spinning anymore , after 1/8 of the bar has loaded

Unfortunately I don`t have an external dvd reader &I don`t know how too boot empire efi from usb...

Hi, I'm currently having problems with installing Leopard / Snow Leopard via Empire Efi. When i'm told to press any key to continue it goes in but the dvd drive doesn't start up and after some time it shows "still looking for root device". I've tried to connect the drive to different SATA ports but i still get "waiting for root device" and it doesnt start to read the disk.

I've also tried booting from a PATA drive but doesn't work either, also tried to turn on and off AHCI mode but to no help.

Motherboard is Gigabyte EP45-DS3 with Intel Core 2 Duo E6750

Any solution on how to get it to work?

I'm using a retail snowleo 10.6.3 usb flash install image

I get all the way up to the Language selection, my mouse moves but nothing happens when I click the next button, or enter.. it just sits there.

The mouse is using USB and keyboard is ps2. I am going to try another run today replacing my keyboard with a usb one.

Recently with a legacy empire efi I have been able to get to the install screen but my hard drive is not present for install, nor is it present in disk utilitiy.

I think my mb/proc combo isn't a great candidate for this. So I'm thinking of replacing the motherboard/proc.

any suggestions on a hardware combo I can pick up from pricewatch ?

I installed a retail OS X 10.6.3 disk using EmpireEFI when my Dell Studio XPS 9000 had a Core i7 920 in it and everything worked perfectly. I upgraded the computer to a Core i7 980X and then my TOD clock was running way too fast and MP4 videos weren't synced with the audio. I figured a reinstall would fix the problem. Well I backed up all my data, reformatted the hard drive and tried to reinstall but now I can't boot from the retail disk. Is there any way to do it? I'm using Empire EFI 1.085 R2 and I can't seem to get to your site to download any other version now.

First of all, I come ... and then congratulate prasys for their excellent work.
I'd like to ask some questions. I have an Asus motherboard P5KPL/EPU with 2x2 GB Ram. Once loaded the operating system, I see that you are only using 1GB of memory. If I look advanced, I can see that the system recognizes the two memory modules and gives as correct, but still only uses one. Asking in various forums, have told me that is a common problem, but have not found way to solve it. I would be grateful if you could guide me a little to solve the problem.

On the other hand, I would like to consider a couple of suggestions to include new versions of empire.

The first is that aside from being able to download iso format, were to put a special version to install on USB devices that were compatible with software to create bootable USB devices, style unetbootin, usBuntu, etc.

The reason for the request, it is much more practical to start the operating system from a USB memory from an optical drive, other than that there are many computers that do not have it. It would also be very useful to be able to customize the behavior of the application, because users may make various changes to the program that would be recorded on the USB drive.

The second request is that you include a small application to install on Mac, Linux or Windows that simply check online updates of Empire, myHack, etc, and download them automatically. I think it would be very useful to keep up with people who do not have much time to make these checks.

I can't wait for the nVidia version! I tried the Generic and ATI versions. They both let me choose the language and partition and format a drive but when I get to the actual install screen, it shows 33 min. remaining then down to 30 min and an error occurs every time (both Generic and ATI). I'm using a Retail 10.6.3 Box Set DVD.

Hi,
I have installed vanilla SL on my laptop using the EE v1.85 (chameleon) CD and as far as I can tell 90% of what should work is working. This includes the battery charging status and the icon in the menu bar.

However, I want to boot from my hard disk not from the EE boot CD so I used myHack 1.1.4 to install the boot loader. This works up to a point but now the battery isn't recognised and a few other nice bits are now gone.

How do I install the EXACT settings that the EE boot CD uses to my hard disk please?

I hope someone can help. I have searched lots of forums but have not found a conclusive answer which is why I am now asking.

hey whatsup. so i have been reading prasy's blog top to bottom and am having a hard time deciding what version of empire efi to use or even if i can use it. ....

specs: inspiron 6000 laptop

intel pentium m 740 1.6ghz

intel 915 gm/pm chipset

1.5gb ddr2 ram

graphics- ATI MOBILITY RADEON X300 PCI Express

i am currently working with a friend to put snow leopard on his newer i3 laptop and we're in the process of burning the o.s dvd, but i'd like to put it on my pentium m 740 if possible without too much trouble. if there is a version that i should use over the others of empire for my specs and someone could post a link that'd be great and i would appreciate it.

i'm just having a hard time finding out which version will work. any other tips or tricks given would be appreciated.

I would suggest trying iboot. I haven't checked in the last few months but the last thing I read from prasys sounded like he wasn't going to continue with empire. I could be wrong though. Good luck!

Not sure if this is proper protocol, so please correct me if I'm wrong... I posted this query at the VirtualBox forums, but I got slapped down for talk of hacking. I cleaned it up over there, but who knows if I'll get any insight w/o providing more details. So, here goes...

I am trying to move a Mac OS X Server 10.6 VM from a "hacked" Windows Vista Athlon PC host to a "proper" Mac host, but I'm having trouble at boot. I initially got the VM installed and running using the EmpireEFI4AMD ISO, then ran the default install of MyHack from the disk image. While this worked fine on the PC, I cannot get it to boot on the Mac. I have inspected the VM w/ VBoxManage "showvminfo" and compared it to another, earlier version of the VM that _will_ boot on the Mac, but I don't see any obvious discrepancies (although perhaps someone could focus my search). I think the problem may be w/ some EFI settings, as I get the following when booting:

EFI Shell version 2.10 [1.1]
Current running mode 1.1.2
Device mapping table
blk0 :BlockDevice - Alias (null)
PciRoot (0x0) /Pci(0x1F,0x1)/Ata(Secondary,Master,0x0)

and then I get the "Shell>" command.

I have one IDE device configured and pointing to the built-in SuperDrive. The VDI is configured as a SATA device. Any ideas where to look here? Would it be something in my Mac OS X System software, or a VM setting outside the OS?
