After experimenting with retail and prepatched installs , I was wondering if people were having problems getting retail on older machines such as SSE2 machines, so I was thinking about building a pre-patched release of Snow Leopard for these older machines.

Could I get some feed back/suggestions?

Thanx!;)

Get the Qoopz and Qoopz v2 (10.2.0 kernel) for older SSE2 machines, that could really help.

There is one DISTRO making the rounds called SnowOSX3.6 that was made by my INSTAHAckintosh.
NOT what INSTAHAckintosh was designed it for!!

I TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO DISTANCE MYSELF FROM IT.

To make matters worse, they didn't even take my "NICK" out of the build.NOT very impressed.

Another reason why INSTAHackintosh V2.0 WILL NOT see the light of day for users, just for my own personal use.

Do the right thing and buy the ORIGINAL. I DID!!
Well it was the UPGRADE, If I had the money I would have bought FULL version OR a MAC!!

Support Apple because one day they WILL release a version for PC's, its just a matter of WHEN.

And with that I depart....bye!!

Please note this is for older SSE2 machines, There is no SSE2 support in retail.

I like the suggestion of the Qoopz kernel I was thinking about using it.

Any suggestions about what I should call the Distro?

Ok, I just got he name of my new Distro, It will be called "OSx86_00010"

The first build will be Retail 10.6.0, It will support SSE2 and SSE3.

I now just need some ideas as to what to include on this DVD, Tools/kexts/Utilities/Apps.ect

I know I will include OSx86 Tools if I can, And all he necessary kexts for a basic osx86 install.

So now I leave it to the suggestions.....

It seems that with the kernel I am using there should already be P4 support, that is the whole reason why I am constructing this distro, I selected the kernel for this very reason, to run on older hardware, I am in need of a beta tester, If you would like to beta test PM me.

Hey x986123 I have a question for you
I have iCore 7 860 with asus maximus III and I have GTX 285.
I have tried 20 different boot cd's to boot to install retail slow leopard.
i get all the way to where it loads NAV kext or plist and then i get the black screen of death

if i use a cheap 7600gs card everything seems to work fine.

how did you install osx? since u are also using gtx series card?

Empire efi boot iso V1.08 thats made for p55 motherboard and gtx 285 boots fine
but when i eject the boot cd and insert snow leopard and click on install mac osx

it starts to load but then comes back to the same screen as if its asking me to select to either install Mac osx or boot from harddrive

I have burned that iso at several different speeds thinking that might be causing that but that don't matter-

can ya assist me here if you can?

Thanks

Although I agree retail is best, I think a distro would be great for many people.

Also, I need someone that knows ALOT about the chameleon boot loader. Please PM me, I cannot finish this project without some detailed info about Chameleon. In particular how to install it to an DMG image.

You could try just restroing the DMG to a FlashDrive, Installing it and creating a new DMG of it.

I will try, Just install ling the basic Chameleon bootloader after enabling write access to the DMG image in the terminal.

Well after trying the command to mount the DMG in read-write mode, it failed, it would not let me mount the DMG in read-write mode, I am a currently thinking and pondering a different way of manipulating the software to patch and add/take away from the DMG.

Well good news I got Chameleon to install, and it went well and I removed the unneeded things from the image, but I can't shrink the image, I tried using disk utility, but it won't let me, any ideas?

Definitely, a Huge (Y)YES(Y) to a prepatched Snow Leopard Distro for old SSE2-only systems.

I have an old 3GHz P4 Northwood limited to SSE2 with a 256MB GeForce6600 gfx card that I'm dying to get off and running OSX 10.6.

Thanks,
