View Full Version : AMD systems
Unfortunately, for my latest build, I didn't have the money to build an Intel system. Instead, I had to go the AMD route. Now I want to install OS X on this system, but I do not know if I should go Leopard or Snow Leopard. Which distro is recommended since I assume I can't do vanilla?
Specs:
AMD Phenom II X3 720
ASUS M4A785TD-M EVO
PNY GeForce GTS 250

SnowOSX Universal 3.6 patched for AMD.
There is an AMD and a Intel version.
Universal 3.5works with AMD and Intel, so there is no difference?
And do Apple updates work?

Only the 3.6 edition is Universal as to being able to support both AMD and Intel, but you will have to get a pathcher utility if you want to update, I think.
I am also building an AMD system, it;s not done yet, But I will be using the SnowOSX 3.6 DVD to install, I was also thinking about doing a retail AMD install using the "Experimental" edition of Empire EFI CD with AMD support.
I would recommend doing a retail install, but if you cant just use the SnowOSX 3.6 DVD , and only the 3.6 is truly "Universal" but I would still make sure it mentioned AMD support before downloading.

How would I do a retail install with an AMD system?

With the Empire EFI CD, It has AMD support.
Ok, I will look at that thread, however it is confusing to me. I haven't really messed with anything since 10.4.11 on my old rig :(

Lets get your system specs in your signature. You may also want to look up your motherboard's chipsets and include them too as this would be the most important item.
Signature
You can also place this information in your "Signature". It will then appear on every post you make. Please keep your signatures reasonably sized. We do not want to see full page specs. Edit your signature here: http://www.infinitemac.com/faq.php?faq=vb3_user_profile#faq_vb3_signatures_av atars

any suggested bootable ISO images to install 10.6.3 retail on an AMD?
The newest empire efi (legacyBoot) It got me to the language selection, but I can't seem to get past that. Mouse works fine to.. bahh
Is there a more efficient bootable image I should try that might work out better?

I am able to get into the installation; however, my hard drive does not appear as a drive to install to. I looked in disk utility and it only shows my usb drive.
I was able to get this far using the new legacy empire efi with the following string..
-v -f -pci1 busratio=17 cpus=2
hard drive is SATA with 3 partitions. one of which is RAW and waiting for OS X.
thanks!
