ipc 10.5.6 on amd 3800+ (Help! Help! Help!)

Hello everyone,

I tried to search the forum for my specific system configuration by couldn't find anything satisfying. So, let me give you my system specs and then the questions will follow.

Processor: AMD Athlon™ 64 Processor 3800+ with Enhanced Virus Protection
• 2.4GHz, 512KB L2 Cache, 2000MHz System Bus

Chipset: NVIDIA nForce 430 Chipset

Memory: 512MB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM memory (expandable to 4GB)

Memory type: DDR2-SDRAM

Hard disk
controller: SATA-3G

Video adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE Graphics with TurboCache

Video RAM: 64MB

Audio: High Definition Audio

So, I was able to install ipc 10.5.6 and boot with the following SETUP

IPC 10.5.6 base system, 9.5.0 Voodoo Kernel, Natit video driver, AppleNforceATA (TEST, V1.1 patch), Azalia audio, RealtekR1000 ethernet driver, patched USB drivers, Seatbelt.kext 10.5.5, PS/2 device support, AppleSMBios-28,

Right now system appears to be stable but few things are broken:

1) Can't connect to the internet as the ethernet card isn't recognized. Also, unable to change settings in in Network Connections.
2) Video resolution and refresh rate is low. Right now only get 1024x768 and when windows are moved they sort of wash out.

Right now I only have these concerns. If any of you would be kind enough to offer some insights, I'd be really really grateful.

If you any of you have similar system specs and have a perfect "Hack" even with other prepatched disk, them please let me know and I can follow what you did to get it working.

1. Are you sure to have Realtek Ethernet? Maybe its an nForce chip like your mobos other chipset as well?

2. You can delete Natit.kext from /System/Library/Extensions and boot using -f once, to remove it again. as there is no solution for onboard GeForce.
You can use a Framebuffer Screenresolution (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Framebuffer#Bildaufl.C3.B6sung) (link is german lang but doesn't matter I think you can see what's possible) by adding it to com.apple.Boot.plist but that ain't going to give you any kind of accerlation. Better get a graphics card.

Thanks for the prompt reply Imkantus. I took your advice and deleted the Natit.kext and it hasn't changed anything. So, surely Natit wasn't even required.

1) So, I am wondering if anybody with the same video card (GeForce 6150 SE) has been successful in curing the window wash problem.

2) I can give nforceLan a try, which is on the ipc disc. If it is a .kext file then I should be able to just add it to /System/Library/Extensions. Am I right ?

Ok, I have internet up and running with NforceLan, which I was able to install from the ipc disc.

Now only the video card issue remains. Anybody with a solution ??

Well better then trying hundrets of fixes would be to do some hardware diagnostics - don't you agree? ;)
Get the package from my attachment, install it and run "sudo lspci -nn" command on the Terminal and post the line about your Ethernet controller.

Well as I wrote above - getting some cheap GeForce card on ebay might be the best solution. :)

You are right Imkantus I'll probably have to go with a new video card. However, before I do that I just want to maybe search some more and also wait to see if anybody else has an easier solution.

I was unable to find the right video driver for my graphics card (which is an integrated card); maybe there isn't one. All that means is that there will be no acceleration, and that's fine. Everything else works like a charm.

Secondly, I was able to fix the graphics problem (or the scroll problem), with my windows and text getting washed out/jumbled as I moved them. I simply had to delete GeForce.kext from /System/Library/Extensions.

Right now, the only thing I want to fix, although it isn't necessary, is the refresh rate and possibly the screen resolution. It does slightly bother me. However, besides that I have a perfectly running osx86 system.
