I have a ESI Juli@ audio card (http://www.esi-audio.com/products/julia/) that runs well on my pc in windows. It is compatible with Mac OS X and there are drivers on its website (http://download.esi-audio.com/?w=esi&p=6&g=1&l=en).

Out of curiosity, I want to see if I can install the driver to my Leopard running on AMD. I know it probably won't work. But since I will reinstall my system later this week, I just want to give it a try and see how it goes.

So I download the latest version of the driver, install it, and reboot. Then as expected, I can't boot up the machine. I boot with -v and find kernel panic (please see attached picture) and with -v -x I can boot into safe mode. Then I run the installation again to find out what files are installed to which folders. Here is the list:

Installer for Egosys Mac OS X driver for Juli@
driver version 2.1
System requirements:
* OS X 10.2.8 or later for PowerPC
* OS X 10.4.4 or later for Intel-Mac
Supported hardware:
* Juli@
Before installing:
Please exit all audio applications before continuing with the installation. When the installer finishes, it will
require that you reboot your machine.
Installed files:
There are two drivers installed by this package. The installed files are:
/System/Library/Extensions/JuliaAudioDriver.kext
/Library/Audio/MIDI Drivers/JuliaMidiDriver.plugin
There is one application installed by this package. The installed file is:
/Applications/Julia Panel.app

My questions are:

In theory, can we use os x compatible hardware and use the supplied driver?

If not, is there a work around to patch the driver, install it, and use the hardware?

In my current situation, is there any way to uninstall the driver? Can I uninstall by deleting the files listed in the corresponding folders? Any other files do I need to modify/restore?

I know these might be silly questions. I'm new in doing this and want to learn more. Any answer/suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Thanks a lot gimpel. I'll take a look at the link to try to work it out.
