We will have to know a bit more about your motherboard. Primaraly its chipsets. You can find these in your user manual or spec sheet. It should be listed Northbridge & Southbridge. This is the most important information in determining compatability.

What are chipsets?
You can use your motherboard as an example. It generally should have whats called a Northbridge & Southbridge chipset. The Northbridge deals with your CPU, RAM & Graphics and your Southbridge deals with the rest (hard drives, usb, expansion slots)

Signature
You can also place this information in your "Signature". It will then appear on every post you make. Please keep your signatures reasonably sized. We do not want to see full page specs. Edit your signature here: http://www.infinitemac.com/faq.php?faq=vb3_user_profile#faq_vb3_signatures_av atars

The Voodoo Kernel and those based on it provide a very usable experience when running OSX on AMD. In the past you would need to manually patch Applications and Updates as these programs would not recognize your AMD processors ID. The Voodoo kernel does this on the fly along with a host of other useful things.

I would not think of this as a cheap Mac but more of a project or hobby. Personally I lean heavily on Terminal. This is not always 100% necessary but at least being roughly familiar with whats going on will help in the long run.

When you attempted your previous installs what was the result? Did you make it into the installer? If so what options did you select? Which line did it hang on. I would keep some notes on each attempt and the results.

By the way thats a great band. Have you seen them live?
