Personally, I still think the Windows has better potential with servers than Mac OSX whereas Linux dominates the industry. lol

Linux & Unix based Operating Systems dominate the Server industry, no doubt!

So ask yourself, what's Mac OS X? I'd like to call it an improved Version of Unix.

For me, it connects the power of unix with a perfect GUI, good Innovations,
good software and a system structure which is very easy to understand, and to develope for.

For both User Systems or Servers, Mac OS X is the best choice to me. :)

@Putta, I agree with you. The foundation of UNIX in a Mac OSX environment is indeed stronger and let's not forget, securer.

Hey, maybe we all can collaborate, leave our friend Zephyroth on the side, let him rest, and all of us can make a Server Version. It''ll be more like introducing a new Linux distribution!, ha. lol =)

I tried to upgrade my client install to server (I have an original Leopard Server DVD) but it hosed my install.

I really would like to have a server version running on my two Amd servers.

Is there a PPF available to patch an original Server DVD?

Guys, I have managed to get my AMD machine to run OSX Server!!

I'll post more details how later, but basically it involves installing a mpkg off the server dvd. After all OSX Server is just Leopard with a server layer installed on top.

Currently trying to update from 10.5 to 10.5.4 using ASU...

Is the ZFS file system read/write supported?

EDIT: ZFS reading maybe supported,Write support will be introduced in Snow Leopard Server.

I really want to know how you did it Voyn1x.

From where did you start? Zephyroth rev2?

When I tried it it killed my install.

which mpkg? the mpkg I see is "ServerAdministrationSoftware.mpkg"... but there are three other "Server" .pkg files: "ServerAdminTools.pkg", "ServerEssentials.pkg", and "Server Setup.pkg"

is it some variant of these or will the .mpkg install these as needed?

I've got the Server Update to 10.5.1 if that helps you out... not as much of a jump using ASU with the Combo Updates.

EDIT: http://rapidshare.com/files/129898952/MacOSXServerUpd10.5.1.pkg

ASU Mod this like you would any other pkg file in the Downloads folder. Should work.
Question... do the updated kernels (9.2.2, 9.4.0) work with the Server Version after the update from regular OS X? If this is the case would it not be possible to just use the mpkg (or combination of pkg files) to update an existing installation of 10.5.4 to Server?

Yep that's exactly what i've done, updated my existing install to server! I've had a few side effects which i'll iron out tonight. And yes the kernels work...

I'll be able to post more information when i get back from work in a couple of hours if you guys can wait till then ;)

Guide can be now be found here (http://www.infinitemac.com/f19/how-to-update-existing-install-to-osx-server-t1228/)
