I'm wanting to do some self training for an Apple certification, but I can't afford a Mac to do it on. Instead of paying $500 for some POS on Craigslist, I figure I could "build" a Mac that would blow that one away.

I tried putting OS X on my POS Wind U120, but nothing worked, no matter what I tried. So I need your advice. What is a good modern motherboard, with good driver support, for a Hackintosh? iATKOS and others recommend the older Gigabyte boards, but I can't find any for a decent price anymore. So is there much support for the newer chipsets? I want to snag a cheap Gigabyte or something, and not have to worry about getting the stupid thing working. Recommendations for other parts is welcome also.

If you can show me all of the parts for a reliable hackintosh that I can get from Amazon or Newegg, and keep it under $500, I'll love you forever.

P.S. Do you think rolling my own would give me a good enough feel for OS X for learning? There really wouldn't be much of a point to this if it wouldn't be what I need...
