I have a GA-MA790XT-UD4P I have tried many different distros to OSX installed on this System and only 1 comes close. "Snow Leopard Client-Server 10.6.2 SSE2/SSE3 Intel AMD" It installs and says successful. Then reboots almost loads and kernel panics. with panic(cpu 0 caller 0x2a7e57): I have successfully installed OSX on my intel based laptop. And i remember having to patch the dsdt before the install. but hat version osx3.6 does not work with amd it seems and the 3.6a version i found just constantly reboots the pc when it trys to load. Anyone got a guide for this or was able install it correctly?

Thanks in advance

System Specs
GA-MA790XT-UD4P
ATI 4850 HD
4 Gigs Ram.

This is solved for the ATI 4850HD Figured out I had to remove all geforce kexts nvidia and other ATI to fix kernel panic this has to be done -x safe mode. Cant be done during install.

Side note here i just tried -x and was able to boot into safe boot. but well thats only a slight improvement :)

I am using SL on this mobo.
First I got it working with "Snow Leopard Client-Server 10.6.2 SSE2/SSE3 Intel AMD", then I installed from retail DVD.
Which kexts/patches/kernel have you selected during install of SL Client-Server ?

Obviously all the wrong ones. lol. i tried using black nights kernal. the cmos fix the ataati going from memory here. usb fix realtek 1000 driver. ati injector. but by retail install. what do you mean? i installed the Snow Leopard Client-Server 10.6.2 SSE2/SSE3 Intel AMD. there is another iso i need after this? when i installed it on my laptop i used osx3.6 but thats an intel cpu. right after i installed hazards iso it reboots to give me the panic(cpu 0 caller 0x2a7e57): kernel trap at 0x5ceadc07, type 14=page fault.

By retail install I mean buying Mac OS X Snow Leopard Install DVD, booting it with Empire EFI, Chameleon or sth similar and simply installing it.
When you install SL from distro, you should select only the most important patches and kexts, and if it boots successfully get the rest of hardware working (audio/ethernet/graphics etc.).
When I installed SL with the Client-Server distro, I selected only blackknight's kernel, ElliotForceLegacyRTC and Chameleon 2 RC4 bootloader. Then I got ethernet working with Realtek1000SL kext, audio with VoodooHDA 0.2.6.2 and graphics with EFI string (you may need something else for your HD4850 though).

i have the phenom x4 B50, well dual core unlocked any bios settings i might be missing. i turned on the achi but never turned off the gsata because i needed it for dvd sata that dont work in achi mode.

Have you tried installing SL Client-Server with only kernel and EvoLegacyRTC yet ?
Anyway, here are my BIOS settings (sorry for the quality, I don't have my camera at the moment).

I had my settings exactly like that when i tried to install "Snow Leopard Client-Server 10.6.2 SSE2/SSE3 Intel AMD" I picked just the kernel Knights and EvoLegacyRTC it installs perfectly. its the running after the install. thats the problem thats when i get that kernel panic. Am i supposed to be using any flags? ive tried maxmem=4096 fsb=200000000 fsbratio=150 the only thing that works is -x to get into safe mode but barring that none of those flags has made any difference they all kernel panic.

I have the Phenom X2 550 BE CPU. witch I unlocked the quad core on to a Phenom X4 B50. I reducued the the fsb to X15 to get under the 3.0 ghz or i would not even install. I have tried it with it as a B50 and a 550 at 3.0 both fail. The error is Panic(cpu 0 caller 0x2a7e57): kernel trap at 05ceadc07, type 14=page fault, Ill try to include a screen shot when i get off work and can log out of windows :) The "0" after cpu changes some time 1 2 or 3.

Maybe one of the cores you've unlocked isn't OK (so AMD locked it and sold the processor as dual core). Try turning off ACC and set the multiplier to default value (it was x16, right?).

i ran full tests on the cores and stress tested them after i unlocked them they passed all tests. but i have tried it with acc off. i acidently triggered a bios reset when fooling around with it earlier and did not realize i was on dual cores again till i went to tell you what cpu i had earlier. but ill try again in a min about to take a break.

I just tried this with acc on and off. 3.0ghz. screen shots attached. I even turned off the gsata lost my dvd but since osx was installed i did not see a problem testing that.

That's weird. What about booting with "-f -x32" or "-f arch=i386" ?

j71rivera

Just Tried both. -f -x32 and -f arch=i386 same panic.Did you have to patch dsdt or apple.boot.com plist? if you did maybe i could see yours.

Here you go. Don't care about the "bt(0,0)" in some lines, I'm using hidden partition to store my kernel, DSDT and some other stuff, and it tells the bootloader to load them from this partition.
Snow Leopard booted fine without DSDT patched, you just patch it to get rid of some additional kexts like "EliottForceLegacyRTC".

Maybe your kernel panic is somehow connected with your graphics card ? When you boot in Safe Mode, OS X doesn't load some kexts (also the graphics ones).

But i did not install any drivers for the video card. i avoided it like you said. so even though its not loading drivers for ati maybe some basic video driver is freaking out?
ill be checking the mod i just did to my system after work here in 45 mins. then ill havet o figure out what video drivers are being loaded.that might be caseing the crash and see if i can remove them.

OS X has drivers for many graphics card installed by default, but you usually need to make the system recognize your gpu (by using enablers, efi strings or injecting info into DSDT).
Another thing : boot into safe mode and check in "System Profiler" if your pc isn't recognized as "MacPro4,1".

j71rivera

it calls itself MacPro3.1

Ok Im not sure the "Exact" kext that was causing the problem because i went in and took out all the NV navida ones and all the ati ones that had nothing to do with my 4850 and the geforce drivers and OMG it booted. Im going to redo my install i think i messed something up in the install but to load and not be in safeboot was a godsend. I now see hope. hay BTW what sound kext did you use. becuase i had no sound. Thanks for your help.

I guess there's even a better way to boot with HD4850 without removing other kexts, but anyway I'm glad you finally got it working ;)
Get sound kext here : VoodooHDA (http://www.kexts.com/view/423-voodoohda.html). I tried patching DSDT and modifying original AppleHDA, but it doesn't work - It only shows HDA device in System Profiler, but no outputs/inputs. VoodooHDA isn't as good as AppleHDA, but it works, even pretty well.
And if you need kext for Realtek 8111D, it's that one : R1000SL (http://www.kexts.com/view/117-realtekr1000sl.kext_32-64k_____new_update_!!.html)

OH Btw i found out what kext it was. it was the ati radeon 2000 that was doing it. of all things. lol i found another post on the subject so i removed just that and problem resolved

Hi,

it only works with dvi and 75 Hz with LegacyATI4800Controller.kext in L / S / E and
the chameleon v1650 . do not forget to delete ATI4600Controller.kext.

trick to boot in -x "Graphics Mode"="1024x768x32" GraphicsEnabler=Yes, then move the
resolution 75 hz

and reboot in normal mode, still with GE.
