Something is gone wrong in making bootable USb ....

The steps i follow exactly are
Use PC-EFI 10.6 to initialize boot flag on USB
Use Chameleon to create Bootable menu on USB
Use Extra_Lion package to create extra folder on USB ...

Verify that mach_kernel file is in / root folder of USB and /Extra folder of USB
Verify that boot file is in / folder

Give me a report if you resolve ...

Hi,
Ok, try this: use a newer version of Chameleon-2.0-RC5-r947
download on http://www.kexts.com (http://www.kexts.com/)
Tthis should resolve your error :
Boot0: GPT
Boot0: testing
Boot0: testing
Boot0: done.J

I had the same issue as you. Once i read your update I realized that the installer was looking at your smbios.plist. You need to change it from MacBookPro4,1. I have mine set to an iMac. I just copied mine from my original Snow Leopard, and I have booted up to the Lion welcome install screen.

EDIT: Successfully installed Lion! Just had to copy my original SL smbios.plist and com.apple.boot.plist file over to get it to boot properly.

i dont have smbios.plist on my snow leopard, i have only com.apple.boot.plist on extra folder,

i already tried changing the smbios.plist to "MacBookPro4,1 and iMac9,1" still not loading.

and also copied my SL com.apple.boot.plist to Lion extra folder it only changes the boot screen.

what seems to be the problem?

EDIT:

FINALLY! got it running!

1st: follow pippox0 tutorial.

2nd: Install Chameleon-2.0-RC5-r947 instead of Chameleon 2.0 RC5 -755.pkg on OSX Lion Boot usb.

3rd: When installation is complete, boot your snow leopard
Install Extra_Lion.pkg to Lion HD
Install Chameleon-2.0-RC5-r947 to Lion HD
copy your SL com.apple.boot.plist and smbios.plist to your Lion HD /Extra folder
Put fakesmc.kext, nullCPUPowermanagenent.kext on /Extra/Extensions folder of your LionHD

4th: Install Chameleon-2.0-RC5-r947 on your Snow Leopard HD to work the dual boot.

Restart.

That's it. :)

Hey Guys :

All I can say is that this guide is but a fraction of what needs to be done, awesome as it might be, there are some more things to do in order to get it working 100%

Like for example if you are on a Laptop, and need Battery to work, get BatteryLion from kexts.com, also I am using Chameleon bootloader rc5 b1200, my keyboard n mousepad on laptop did not work till I got the ps2controller update ...

Enabled QE/CI via osx86Tools and dual Screen support via Lizard ... Audio had to get VOODOHDA for Realtek RC88x ...

Of course it all depends on your build, but best place to get your kexts is kexts.com ;)

Now I am 100% up n running !

Thanks Pippo for startup guide ;)

Hi Guys,

I've been running Leopard/Snow Leopard for a few years now without any problems. Installing Lion seems to differ a bit.

Could someone answer a few little questions :)

1: I personally don't like the USB install methods. I always installed Snow Leopard via an USB to IDE/SATA converter and plugged my destination drive to that. Lion always complains there is nothing to install. Do you guys know if I can install Lion from a running Snow Leopard via my converter to another drive?

2: I never used a smbios.plist. My DSDT did everything for me (I always thought so...). Is it recommended using that plist for performance issues? I don't see any necessity. Is a smbios.plist a reason to getting hardware run?

3: Is it necessary installing Extra_Lion.pkg? I manually set up my Extra folder - does that .pkg make anything different?

4: I love vanilla running OSX. Thats because I only had one AD1988b.Fix.kext in my Extra folder. Now everybody is talking about VoodooHDA.kext. With my AD1988b.Fix.kext I can see all audio connections in "about this mac" - but actually there is no audio available. Why can't my DSDT activate my hardware the way it did with Snow Leopard?

5: Network used to be running out of box with Leopard/Snow Leopard. Now I have to use special kexts. One way further from vanilla installation... Any ideas why my hardware isn't supported anymore (something to do wit smbios.plist)?

I hope someone can answer my questions - best regards from Bavaria, Germany :)

Hi,
some answers to your questions :
1. YES - You can copy DMG/USB to a internal/external partition on HD, place Chameleon and EXTRA_Lion on it and run Lion Installation from it . (it was my first OSX Lion installation attempt )

2. smbios.plist is necessary to bypass OSX Lion installation Check.
After installed Lion, you can delete it ( BTW i don't recommend it )

3. Extra_lion.pkg have all kext minimum necessaries to install Lion. You can experiment if you like to find your Kexts

4. I use VoodooHDA.kext , but it depends on your HW .
DSDT patching don't works for me.. Do as you like ...

5. As above, it depends on your HW.
i use Intel1000e.kext patched for my network card.
BTW you need a Kext that works on 64bit on Lion
look on www.Kexts.com (http://www.Kexts.com)

I hope this will help you ...:)

Cheers

Hi YouDoMeIDoYou or so ...,

if you've got a running SL installation, just follow the following instruction on tonymacx86 (http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2011/07/xmove-multibeast-install-os-x-107-lion.html) - imho that's by far the fastest and simplest upgrade installation. After having downloaded LION from the AppStore it took me less than an hour to get LION up and run.

The only "post install" was to pursuade my ALC889a soundchip to work. Multibeast didn't help (for whatever reason) so I found the following link: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=140941 (look for the section that begins with "For OS X 10.7, or AppleHDA version > 2.0.0
ALC885/889a" and follow the instructions that come with the downloaded file(s).

Everything else worked like my SL did before.

My MB is a GA-EP45 UD3R with NVIDIA GF 9500GT.

Hope that helps. Don't forget to have a working copy of your today's SL installation in case that something goes wrong. Murphy is living everywhere ...

One last hint: it seems that LION requires the "latest" bootloader - so if you are still on an older version of chameleon - switch to chimera (try it first on a copy of your existing SL, before you patch the SL which is to be replaced by LION). If not it will end in an endless bootloop.

Kind Regards
RPT007 from far North of Bavaria

Try to install again Extra Lion.pkg, Chameleon-2.0-RC5-r755-Lion, and PCEFI 10.6 Lion+Snow into your USB Installer.

Also make sure that you have fakesmc.kext and NullCPUPowerManagement.kext inside USB Installler / Extra/Extensions
If theres no Extensions folder just create and paste the two kext

The timeout error appears minutes after "nothing to load" .
Is it because of file permissions or not? :-/

use terminal and type

chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/LaunchDaemons

chmod -R 755 /System/Library/LaunchDaemons

i also encountered that, but i just ignore that step and proceed. after i finish installing on my HDD i run Kext Utility, OSX86 Tool and check repair permissions. and also u can do that step after installation on your HDD, just run Disk utility and repair permissions in your newly installed lion HDD.

Every time i get an error on boot i just do this steps:

a. Install Extra_Lion.pkg to USB Flash Drive
b. Install Chameleon 2.0 RC5 -755.pkg to USB Flash Drive
c. Install PCEFI 10.6 Lion+Snow.pkg to USB Flash Drive
After installing "a , b, c" on my Flash drive i always create a folder "Extensions" inside /Extra , and i paste (ElliottForceLegacyRTC.kext, fakesmc.kext, NullCPUPowerManagement.kext)

Hope it help. If you do this steps and still stuck just power off your pc and try to boot again.

Anyway, I had to fix permissions on the USB stick by hand:
cd /Volumes/OSX\ Lion

chmod 755 /Volumes/OSX\ Lion/System/Library/Launchdaemons

i'm not using SL as noted above but the 10.5.2 kalyway. so i can't copy my existing boot.plist. BTW the lion installer i download has a prohibition sign (/) over it, i'm guessing since i'm running 10.5.2 so it won't let me run it.

so can i download the boot.plist of a SL and replace it? or can i edit the boot.plist to say MacBookPro4,1?

hi,

where exactly is Chameleon, so that run it and change my boot.

thanks

This what i do when i put extra OSInstall.mpkg in /System/Installation/Packages, i also put Chameleon-2.0-RC5-r755-Lion, Extra Lion.pkg, PCEFI 10.6 Lion+Snow.pkg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a240/analot/packages.png
and after all installation completed you can see in your System Preperences chameleon like this.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a240/analot/SPC.png

this guide has help me the most than any other guide. did all the steps listed.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3728089/IMG_0112.JPG

only deviations is Chameleon-2.0-RC5-r947_VS [from kexts.org] instead of Chameleon 2.0 RC5 -755.pkg
i'm using a dell xps 420. ich9r
and i was using kalyway 10.5.2 install to do all the prep work.

i read that..

i'm not using SL as noted above but the 10.5.2 kalyway. so i can't copy my existing boot.plist. BTW the lion installer i download has a prohibition sign (/) over it, i'm guessing since i'm running 10.5.2 so it won't let me run it.

so can i download the boot.plist of a SL and replace it? or can i edit the boot.plist to say MacBookPro4,1?

PLEASE HELP. i've been at this for almost a week =\

so it works...FYI the installer didn't see my drives at first but i go a patched ioatafamily.kext, and that fix it.

i went through the post install stuff. but chameleon didn't show up under prefferences. and i couldn't boot from HDD. end up getting multibeast, that fix the HDD boot problem.

Using iBoot legacy and DVD burned with Lion it won't start installation. Using -x -v, got error like in attached image. Do I need an updated version of iBoot (or iBoot legacy) ? I used iBoot Legacy to install SL 10.6 retail, now I am on 10.6.8. My specs are here: http://unixexpert.ro/mac-os-x-10-6-7-snow-leopard.html

my problem is when everything is done loading
just before setup will start the pc reboots
any help please

Try this method.
Note when you erase your USB drive use MBR instead of GUID partition.

http://www.themacmob.com/how-to-create-a-bootable-hackintosh-ready-lion-usb-drive/

This procedure works on mine:
x58 ud5
i7 920
6 gb ddr3, team xtreem 18666
Palit GTX 260
lg gh22 dvd writer
2x Hitachi 2TB
2x Seagate 320GB

a little tweaking with the kexts is needed.

Goddamned....-.-
After 20 times I passed finally the installation of Lion (updated 10.6.7 to 10.7) but it hangs by booting.. I tried many Versions of Chimera Bootloader. It started from the USB Stick but I want Full Graphic-Support(Under SL it worked) so I need Chimera. Or knows anybody any help??
I had this Tutorial http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=251027 in SL and took this now too for Lion but the Bootloader hangs..
I don't see the Apple-Logo, I just see the Chameleon-Color and .... Use ForceWake=y to..... and smth like Parse Integer 0x63 or like this don't know exactly..
But the Apple Logo doesn't come..
With -v GraphicsEnabler=No it works but I have finally a blackscreen because I installed already the kext.
I have an Imaga from SL with witch I can Boot and have a fully working SL but just on my external Drive.
So I can edit anything on the Lion-Drive..
Knows anybody this fail?
Thx for help!!

Hi, I followed this guide to the letter and I think I've done everything correctly. But when I boot, it loads every thing and then it shows me a blank/gray screen with the cursor on the top-left corner.
I can move it and all but that's it, I think that's the screen where it's supposed to tell that the installer is loading and then ask me for the language.

Try to recreate USB Pen drive ....

howmanyds
10-28-2011, 09:51 AM
I didn't need to recreate the whole pen drive -- I just had to find the osinstall files for 10.7.2 and put them in their places. And then it could begin installing.

But now I'm stuck again.

The install starts with about "20 minutes remaining" and proceeds nicely until "6 minutes remaining" where it gets stuck for a long time before finally saying it can't continue and that I should contact the software vendor.

Would this be related to that third kext (ElliotForce...) which I did NOT install?

Or maybe because I skipped a step in your guide: you say to create a image and title it lion and restore the basesystem into it -- I went ahead and restored basesystem onto my pen drive and did the editing of the contents directly on the drive. As I continued through your guide I saw that you meant for the first LION image to be on the desktop?? and after doing the editing to restore it to the pen drive. Do you think this makes much difference?

THanks!!

I went back and followed the procedures exactly as you've written them, except for using a later version of chameleon.

And I got in!

But not much was working, so I started with Multibeast and Using Kext helper I installed a Kext for intel Ethernet. But on restart I couldn't even get to the sign in screen. It said it failed to load Kext com.apple.driver.AppleRTC

So now I'm just starting over with the reinstall of the OS

In the future, when I try a Kext that breaks my hackintosh, is there a way to get back in there and undo the changes without having to reinstall everything? Thanks!

I didn't need to recreate the whole pen drive -- I just had to find the osinstall files for 10.7.2 and put them in their places. And then it could begin installing.

But now I'm stuck again.

This guide is for installing Osx lion on hd ( intel core2 duo or superior ) .
First we have to prepare a usb booting installation pen , then we install on pc.

Hello,

I followed the instruction and installed Lion to Optiplex 760. It works very well and I have upgraded to 10.7.2.
The only issue that trouble me is the graphic card. I can get 1280x1024 without problem by modifying the file of com.apple.Boot.plist. But the best experience of my monitor is 1680x1050. Even if I set 1680x1050, I can only get 1280x1024. Can anyone give me any idea on how to solve this problem? Do we have drivers for GMA 4500?

Many thanks.

Alex

Hi,
i have Optiplex 760 too and i have 1280x1024 resolution, no QE/CI . Until Now there is no solution for graphic card intel GMA 4500.:(
When i will find a working Kext (64bit ) almost which enables changing resolution , i will post it here ...

Hi, PippoX0

Many thanks for your reply. I am going to buy a graphic card for Optiplex 760. What's your recommendation then? ;)

I think I will only use it to watch some movies or surf the internet and I won't use it to play game. So a low end graphic card should be enough to me. My main concern is how Lion supports to this card.

How about Nvida G210 / G240? :)

(Sorry if it is beyond the topic. )

Alex

navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices/Setup Assistant.app/Contents/info.plist
open info.plist
Delete:
<string> DeviceSection </ string>
<string> KeyboardTypeSection </ string>
installer won't look for ur keyboard.
if u have ps2 keyboard then use voodoo ps2 controller.
it worked for me.

Thank You for your advice..
but i have a small problem.
How can i edit the Info.plist as i am not able to boot into Lion in single user mode.
I have freshly installed Lion so I do not have any other MAC OS X installed on my HDD to reach Info.plist
Can any 1 please guide to boot into my installed Lion in single user mode ?
The Command -s does not work and leads me to "Cannot find Keyboard error" ..plz help

btw the guide is simply awesome ..thanx pippox0:D

re-editing this post...
booting in single user mode gives this error :
BootCacheControl: Unable to open /var/db/BootCache.playlist: 2 No such file or directory
after this, the keyboard error appears :(
just cannot enter single user mode to edit info.plist :( :(

My motherboard is a Gigabyte X48-DS5

Graphic card: Nvidia 9800GT

Mouse: Razer Lachesis

Hey guys,

I followed these instructions a slightly different way, just because I couldn't "repair the permissions" of Lion.dmg (Disk Utility and Command Line method). :-/ What I did was:

Restore BaseSystem.dmg to USB Drive
Delete "Packages" alias and copy "Packages" from InstallESD.dmg
Copy kexts and install pkgs as directed

Everything seems to boot fine, as it appears to be loading all the kexts. Then the dead end: It'll just stop booting and give me a black screen. What went wrong with the boot process? If it has to do with something I did during the setup process, then I guess I could backtrack and do it again. Thanks for all your help and thanks for this awesome guide! :D

Additional Details:
Model: ASUS Eee PC 1000HE
Current OS: Mac OS X Snow Leopard v10.6.8
I also wasn't able to "repair the permissions" of the USB flash drive. On both the .dmg and the flash drive, the button would be greyed-out... :-/

UPDATE: So I went a little deeper into the thread, and on page 2, sargatanas recommended installing a different version of Chameleon. I installed this on the USB drive, but the boot process was the same: It would load kexts and misc. files, then just black out. :-/
UPDATE 2: The black screen is gone, but now I have the same problem as neophyter back on page 1, where the PC reboots right before setup. I followed sargatanas's instructions on page 2, but had no luck. Since I'm on an Intel Atom CPU, I replaced the stock mach_kernel with nawcom's Intel Atom kernel. This also didn't help me with my reboot problem.

i tried for 5 days now to make this work. should have never started. i went through every possible scenario and always get the same message in the end.

BootCacheControl: Unable to open /var/db/BootCache.playlist: 2 no such file or directory

i changed everything accribically to the instructions. tried updated chameleons worked it over and over again. of course nowhere in the forum there is my issue popping up. in fact nowhere in any forum there is that issue with the
bootcache showing up. As usual and always i have a unique problem and cant make it work no matter what i do.
i knew that no one can and will EVER make Snow leopard or Lion work on a IBM/Lenovo z61t. When i initially wrote this i knew the answer because no one ever usccessfully was able to instal a hackintosh on a IBM lenovo machine. They are all {censored} magically protected or whatever. About to give up. I cant belive that i lost 5 days doing this. No one can install hackintosh on a IBM levnovo Labtop. The ones who claim it are lying....

thx for the help anyway....
