Hello there!

using the 10.5.2 of zephyroth

Here is the thing: system is 100% working. But, any torrent client I use makes the system crash. The HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON screen appears after 10-15 minutes of download. Nforce 4 lan...

I tried bitrocket, azureus, transmition and other things...

are you using the built in lan on your nforce 4 board??
if you are you should look at buying a pci ethernet card

weird because I already used it before with no problems! I guess its the current compilation of the forcedeth driver...

where did you get the forcedeth driver from? just out of curiosity.

are you experiencing any slowdowns, jerky mouse movements, or "-10810" errors before your system crashes? and how does it crash? to a black screen or the message that braid gets?

ive experianced a couple different actually..

Once = computer stayed on all night, next morning all applications failed to launch (gave me an error), had to reboot.

Everyother time = left PC on all night (without azureus) system log says (?:??am) We crashed at 0x0000....forgot the numbers)

with azureus i think its a Java issue, i dont know, ill leave it on again tonight and get a log

Yep, I've had both of those errors. The first one is the "-10810" error, the second is something more major, which for me is less frequent. Can I ask you for a favor? Please go to our thread called "Mouse Movement Bug" and post there. You may not have the actual mouse problems, but all of us in that thread are acknowledging these issues you've mentioned as being part of the same problem. There is no known cure, and so far all we've been able to figure out is that there is no one thing that causes these issues to occur. Read my last post there and you will learn a lot more about my experiences and theories regarding these issues. So far we've not heard any official statement from Zeph on this issue, but WinLinMac and some of the other more prominent users here are listening. The more people we have in that thread, the more urgent this will become and the quicker we can find a solution. Thank you.

I think I fix it. I was using the forcedeth from 10.5.2 zephyroth release. Than I change for this: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=12933

I think the problem its gone. I did run Azureus at 60-70kb/s for about 20 minutes and that was ok. Iīm gonna try another donwload with more speed (90K or more) and see what happens. I will give you guys my report.

just out of curiosity, which of the forcedeth versions did you try? regular, -nochk, or -d ?

Ive used the new forcedeath.kext too, sofar it has stopped all the freezes I have been having.
And The network was fine untill I hit 1mb in transmission, then the driver crashed but it didn't crash my system which is a positive as I have a wireless card anyway, but I needed the new forcedeath cause the old one was still causing crashes.

I used the regular one

<a href='http://www.sendspace.com/file/07v1w6'>http://www.sendspace.com/file/07v1w6</a>

This kext is a bit slower than my other network card but it stops the crashes

to all: any overclocking on your systems? just curious, again :)

braid

I did change the 10.5.2 forcedeth version for the regular one. Slower network but no crashes so far. I just dont hit the 1mb speed at the torrent yet, but by http I downloaded at 102Kb/s and it was ok. Still looking for a decent torrent for download at full speed to see what happens.

edit: no overclock in my system.
system: amd 3500+ venice, a8n sli se (sux), 2gb ddr 400 samsung, 20gb ide 133 for osx, 200gb ide for files, 2x prolink 6600gt 128mb (sli not enable at osx, is it possible to enable that?) 1mb connection.

Iīve just finished download a 65mb file on transmition. Connected to 50 peers, reached the 1mb/s at 50% of the file. Speed remains above 90Kb/s until the end. NO CRASHES.

once again I did the procedure of the post n1: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=12933

Well, now everything itīs working 100%. I guess itīs time to say goodbye to my windows vista.

okay now i left azureus on all night downloading a 6gb file, conections limited @ 250/300 peers, no crash!

only things ive changed:

Disabled Indexing, turned off time machine, turned off screensaver, and in bios set cpu fan from 90% to full speed ( i believe at idle im around 32-33 Celcius)

I am over clocking (64 X2 3800+"2Ghz" OC'ed @ 2.2Ghz) DDR400 running at 440mhz

so which version are you using then? As mentioned before -nochk did it for me.

braid:

did you try

In AppleScript:
do shell script “defaults -currentHost write com.apple.screensaver idleTime 180?

The 180 is idle time in seconds to activate the screensaver. Setting it to 0 disables the ScreenSaver.

braid
03-27-2008, 11:47 PM
wow Peppi! I have no idea how to do that! where is the AppleScript? is it a file I have to edit?

Hi, well no, just open up terminal inside your applications->tools folder and type it like stated.

To read first whats in there right now you might use:

defaults -currentHost read com.apple.screensaver

I was having similar issue too but I think its fixed now because I have installed another network card (Realtek) and have disabled the onboard one. Just thought I would let you guys know about the success if anyone else wants to try it. Oh btw, I got the card for $4 on ebay. So well worth it to try out.

I have DFI NF4 motherboard.

weird... did the command... check it out how it already was ?

{
askForPassword = 1;
idleTime = 0;
moduleName = Arabesque;
modulePath = "/System/Library/Screen Savers/Arabesque.qtz";
showClock = 0;
}

anyway/ just typed the write 0 string...
and...(offtopic) the ls command... can I turn it into colors? like it is in linux? I tried ls --color and nothing...

Hi, hmmm, gets interesting... So if it still comes up with the screensaver maybe you might just rename Arabesque.qtz to _Arabesque.qtz,
to get OSX confused, probably thats a way to make him stop doing that. (Funny my screensaver never startet for month, so I had the same problem for a while vice versa;-))

The highlighting for ls might be changed like that:

Hi, so it is not the modified one i guess, just try one of those shipped here, maybe it'll change something as it did for me.
I still don't know the differences as noone replied to my posting, but it works like a charm for me (the forcedeth-nockd did it)

after leaving it on for 24 hrs or so i got this in consol (computer had restart),

<b>3/27/08 2:11:43 PM com.apple.launchd[1] We crashed at instruction: 0xffff0315 (sent by PID 0) </b>

then overnight i got "Application SWT quit unexpectedly":

<b>3/28/08 2:03:23 AM [0x0-0x1c01c].org.gudy.azureus2[386] Invalid memory access of location 00000000 eip=ffff0315 <br>

well I have disabled my NF4LAN in the bios, not using onboard at all, im using a linksys PCI- wireless card that has a broadcomm 4320 chip on it, im not sure changing the LAN driver would help..

would it?

Ohh and you should use the -nock version instead of nockd, its the same just without debugging output, so its not filling up a debugger log

not sure what it is though

welcome to my world, buddy.

and the world of many other "happy" AMD users ;)

i can't remember if you said you tried "idlehalt=0" at darwin prompt. doesn't work for some people, but it works for me. unfortunately, it gives me a 12+ degree increase in CPU temperatures because it doesn't let the CPU idle. bummer, but it's all i've got after weeks and weeks of trying everything and testing for many hours on end. i am currently harassing puttabong and roisoft for some answers as to why their systems work fine and ours don't. it makes no sense.
