since the software update, i can't mount internet disks. I have both an idisk and a jungle disk (which i highly highly highly recommend), and none of them will mount.
error -50.

is it the mds update that fucked up everything?

That's odd. Was there any update you installed recently? If so, which one?

The security update + Safari 3.1 + time machine update.

Do you also have the problem that you can't connect to any shared pc's in finder or connect to a server?

I'm hoping the security update wasn't the cause for this.

hehe, sorry, don't mean to step on your toes. by all means. i was actually asking because i had problems with network when i was using forcedeth drivers (on another osx partition, not my main one), and it just dawned on me that i had recently updated with safari + security. but the updates with skge driver are fine (for me).

I dunno, I use the same old network driver. I have a nforce4 and marvell yukon, but bios-deactivated, and i access internet through firewire (using my macbook as an expensive wireless modem), but I ma pretty sure it worked before the security update, actually (i mean, it definitely worked, and pretty sure it worked with firewire/ip).
ahhh. fuck this.

ok, i am an idiot. Somehow the permissions were messed up by the update (?!), so a disk utility/repair permissions solved everything. Bizarre, though.

Permissions could have also been resolved through the Onyx Utility, but you still did good. No doubt about it.
