I got the following problem, i cant boot the dvd.
I see the NForce kext being loaded and seeing my hd, but after a while it comes with this.

Syncing disks... killing all processes

And then it just reboots the computer

As Zeph R2 has problems with the EFI Bootloader under GUID and with connecting
to to network shares on my combo, i tried eddies R2 ;)
Well, this release is causing issues as well:
At first i get a panic, getting past that with -x .
Second, graphics are sometimes faulty (glitches like stripes on screen) and
quartz is not supported.
So, what to do? I am to lazy (actually, i dont have the time)to bother with searching
for solutions, kexts, patches etc. I guess, my gfx can be fixed easily by reinstalling
natit etc but the boot panic leaves me clueless.
So i will reinstall eddie one more time, maybe changing some options at install.
If this does not work as desired, i will switch back to zeph and tackle my problems there
(as i read, there are fixes available now).

amd 6000, nforce 560, gforce 8600gt, pci nic
(i forgot, audio is not working with eddie, but i´m positive i checked azilla at install though..)

Interestingly, my network shares with Leo4All worked out of the box. As with R2 I was never able to share files over the network.

Did you try Go > Connect to Server > enter in IP address of other computer?

I had a similar problem when I was running forcedeth drivers a while ago and that was the only way I could connect to shares, but I guess it worked...it was just stupid and frustrating :\

Actually I did not, however, may be it could have been the result of me setting up an FTP server at home. May be that's how it all finally worked, lol. =D

I may have found the fix to this, working on it now.

Turns out Eddie's did the job after all. I had an error with Zeph's release at the end of the install, prob EFI related but I couldn't be bothered so I went for Eddie's.

All good except for the GFX panic at first boot. I removed the proper kexts and then went for Zephs universal Nvidia installer with NVinject 0.2.1. Hopefully I can get my GFX string back later on.

So now I will take it step by step over a few days, I'm not in a hurry and will backup almost every major step of the way.
I'm not going to do the idlehalt tweak just yet cause maybe this release runs without issues.

So thx Eddie for the release. Hopefully you will still make proper updates too. 10.5.3 is near it seems so...

I tried to install leo4all rev2, installation succesful, instead of zeph's distro, which didn't even get to the installer stucking whith error «iousbfamily couldn't enumerate connected device». but using leo4all i noticed, that it's rather unstable, although i didn't load too much 3d-party kexts or something like this. actually, the only 3d-party kext was geforce & nvdaresman, others was OTB. i 've been noticed that there are different problems with system's permissions — they crashes regulary, though i didn't change anything. owner often resets to «system», i managed to enter password to write in folders which, actually, should be easy write-accessible for admin users and so on. because of it there are often problems with system's perfomance — it's rather slow, and with applications — one day photoshop just didn't want to launch, saying something about disk permissions. maybe someone has similar problems, or eddie knows a solution? yes, i tried permission repair, i'm not an idiot, but either terminal and disk utility didn't find any problems except few errors didn't connected to system files, which appeared every time i launch DU. any suggestions?

specs: nforce4 MB, athlon 3000+, ide hd, nvidia 6600gt.

Hi Guys. I'm working on a new computer for a friend. It's an Intel Core2Duo. Asus P5B. Intel P965 / ICH8. JMicron disabled in BIOS.
DVD boots fine. Created the partitions fine. Installs fine. Eject the DVD and it boots in Verbose mode loads lots of kexts just like normal, then right after it switches to the smaller text, it stops and says 'waiting for root device' (or something similar) Any ideas? Leo4All rev2. Using SATA DVD and SATA Hard drive.

Try this:

Issue: Upon booting DVD installer you see a message "waiting for root device…" This is a known issue that comes up quite frequently. Your IDE or SATA chipset may not be supported by the installer. Unfortunately there is no easy fix for this problem. You must have a working install of OSX to do this.

Solution 1 Find a known working kext for your specific chipset.(Google is your friend)

hdiutil attach /"Leopard.iso" -readwrite

Create a folder named Extensions on your Desktop
Unpack Extensions.mkext from the Leopard.ISO in this folder
mkextunpack -v -d /Users/"YOU"/Desktop/Extensions /Volumes/"Leopard.ISO"/System/Library/Extensions.mkext

Remove the MeDevil's kext(AppleNforceATA.kext)
Replace with the one known to work for your chipset
Fix the permissions on your new file
type

kextcache -a i386 -K /Volumes/"Leopard.ISO"/mach_kernel -m /Users/"YOU"/Desktop/Extensions.mkext /Users/"YOU"/Desktop/Extensions

and place the newly created Extensions.mkext into the ISO and burn it to DVD and try again.

Thanks man, but the DVD booted fine so that wasn't the issue. I actually let the Kalyway DVD partition and format the hard drive, re-installed and it works fine now. Except for LAN. Marvell chip set but I don't know the Device ID. Any network cards just work out of the box?

Yep, just swap in any Realtek Ethernet Adapter (Ethernet Card) and that should do the trick. ;-)

Funny stuff actualy. I see releases coming from everywhere for AMD yet all I read about are non working systems. Crashing, mouse movement bugs and what not.
I'm now at full default settings for my CPU and RAM and if I still experience the same issues then there isnt one single release working properly nor is there ever going to be one, for AMD that is.
I still wonder what the purpose is of these releases. Look at the desktop or working with the OS. To me, it seems OSX86 on AMD is more like a toy and on Intel it's serious business. Too bad though since currently I cannot afford an Intel or real Mac.
Anyway, I'll hold my nagging for later, when it does turn out to be everything else but my system.

On the good side (if there isnt even one in my case) Eddie's release has been the best for me.

Alright, I'll leave my system running overnight this time with Lightroom, Photoshop and others running and hopefully the apps wont crash this time.

Hmmm.......Funny that you say it's just a toy, because I've had Leopard running perfectly on my AMD machine since...wow...late October, early November....
QE / CI works,
Toast works
iLife works
iWork works
CS3 works
vmware Fusion works (i have to have windows to be able to connect to my work's VPN.)
I have installed ALL updates. (just need to have Marvin's Utility handy.)
Everything I have installed works. No issues, no problems.

I don't know if osx on amd is a toy but it's certainly not the same as running it on intel, though i guess mac users might insist that running it on any pc isn't the same as on a mac.

I converted to intel and I'm not the only one.
As for affordability, processor £44 new with heatsink, mobo I paid £65 but you could get something compatable new for £50 and a lot cheaper of the bay, 2gig ram £35
So you could do it new for £130 and I'm sure if you shop around ebay you could knock a chunck of that, add to that whatever you can sell your amd for!
Just a thought.

Could you tell me what Timings and other settingds you are (were) running? As I said I'm running all default atm and will let the system run for a day. But I wanted to know from you guys if you are running overclocked, 1T or 2T for instance.
At default my RAM runs at 2T but I've always ran it at 1T without issues (in Windows)
As for people getting angry here. I've got plenty of respect for those who provide releases cause they make it possible for us to even try it out. I've thanked people enough for this.
Let me ask you this though. What does OSX stand for? To me, stability, so the way OSX runs now, is Windows in other clothing, even worse cause Vista is more stable then XP.
You, Roisoft,WinLinmac and Agrafuese seem to be peeps who really push the OS to its limits so if you guys tell me I'm full of it then I will rest my case.

I have been running OSX since JAS 10.4.8. You won't get into trouble doing 2 hour sessions m8 but leave the PC running for a while and then try to continue work.

Alright, I said whats on my mind so enough nagging from my end, please stop quoting my post though cause that builds tension up. I'm sure Eddie and Zeph will read it in their own time. I just wish they stopped building new releases and try to help those who had stick with them from the start.

@Snow: Sorry, I can't confirm what you are saying.

My AMD Mac OSX86 System is my primary, and only operating system which I use since January 4th - the release of Zephyroth's 10.5.1 Rev1 Disk & the birth of this forum. I never use or used any other Operating Systems, because there aren't any problems to worry about, everything is working perfectly. If a new software update appears, one indeed has to install it manually, but guess what, I love the hacking part :-)

Some Systems work almost out of the box with small fixing required, and some simply do not work, you have to understand.

Hi Puttabong, I'm sorry for the bashing or bad commercial bud. It's hard to understand but I'll have to take your word for it. Its so frustrated in the way that it works flawlesly in the beginning, probably because I have about the same gear as Zeph and Eddie. Then after some work issues occur.
I'll hold my comments on this matter cause I can't be bothered to get into issues on this board too ;)
I'm happy for you though that you got a fully stable and reliable system, I wish I could say the same. I have to stop doing photography and audio work because of this.

Hiya snow I tried every memory setting under the sun, basically the slower you run it the more stable, but the only thing that really worked was the idlehalt thing. Though big problem with that was the heat.
That was the final straw for me I'd already bought another lan card and an external sound card.
Lucky for me sound card went on ebay for more than I paid for it lol.
Anyone want a nearly new realtek 8169 works great on osx lol.

Hate to break it to you man, but I use it for everything. It's my main machine. I can run PS just fine. Lightroom I don't use.
I use iWeb all the time. PS all the time. Flash, iphoto, visualhub, Toast...There is a large number of apps that I use on either a daily or weekly basis. Including running windows XP inside VMware Fusion when I need to connect to work VPN.
Right now when I do an uptime on my system, it shows this:

Before that, the uptime was 29 days. So, find it hard to believe or not, I use that machine for EVERYTHING. :-)) The only windows box left in the house is the virtual machine. And I ONLY use that for work. (And it still runs on my Hack. :-) )

I just came back and noticed an iTunes crash. So this is running all at default. I haven't tried going into my other apps yet so there could be more crashing up ahead.
What I did was open up Photoshop, Lightroom, Mail, Safari, Adium and then let a Lynda tutorial movie run over night on iTunes.

@Timdmsith, do you keep your apps open? if not, let them stay open for a long period of time for testing. Leave PC and come back later to continue work in an app. And thx for all the info.

I don't even think I had errors like this, "floating point exception" sounds CPU related.

Mind you, all at default now! no OC, tight timings or other tweaks, just plain default.

This could be because I have not selected the fixed IONetworking kext when installing. TM worked from the start though and I thought this was only needed when TM didn't work?

Yes, I have. Safari and iTunes stay open all the time. From the time I start up until I reboot. I've had a virtual machine running in VMware for 3 or 4 days at a time when work was really busy. Frequently leave Toast Titanium open at least all night, and sometimes for a few days at a time. These are just a few examples. (I did recently start getting that error 35 again in my logs. I had that fixed at one time, I'll have to look at it again when I get a chance.) :-))

If I recall you had your system as stable as can be right? so that means whenever I get issues I will try this one. I had these panic issues but today I've updated the system.kext too. Let's hope it does some good to this crashing matter. I'm still going Intel unless there would be a magix fix that eliminates all issues with AMD so it runs like an Intel (with the patching of course)

Yeah, your System.kext really needs to match your running kernel. You'll have all kinds of issues if not.

Again, I've updated the system.kext, the one that camewith the kernel update, I left the PC running overnight and just came back.

Boojah 2 crashes, Photoshop & Safari. So again, very hard to believe others are running rock stable cause I know a lot of them who have the same issues as me. Maybe its a bad release? Maybe I should blame Eddie and get it over with. I doubt it though cause others have been using Zephs. If I run my rig at default speeds (all auto) things get even worse (crashes appear faster) so it has nothing to do with timings or overclocks. I'll try your SMBIOS (so that means Leo4all has a very bad one if this is the case)

I get the same info in system profile with your SMBIOS kext so I geuss we're using the same one. m8, can you share info on what other kexts you are using, kernels etc...
If you could go through the trouble could you share the important BIOS settings from your motherboard by taking pics or writing down? That would be great. So for instance CPU settings (OC) and RAM timings and other stuff you find relevant to running OSX.

Ok....Some Specs:

MSI K8N Neo4-F nForce4 Socket 939 ATX Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 3400+ Single core
256MB Nvidia 7300 GT
1 Gig RAM
200 Gig IDE hard drive
I have a PCI network card because the built in one didn't work with Leopard.

My BIOS settings are nothing special. I don't remember changing anything. Pretty sure it's just however it came out of the box.
Hard drive and DVD ROM are both IDE. Purposefully bought IDE because of issues at the time with SATA. (10.4.8)

I did kind of an interesting install because there were no AMD install DVDs when I did it. (Right after the very first ToH DVD came out.)
I had been running Tiger for several months. I downloaded the ToH DVD and mounted it read/write. Ran Marvin's on it. Edited the video kexts with my device id and injected nvInject so that it would boot up. Unmounted it and burned it.
I backed up all my data (since this is my main workstation), partitioned the drive with the Jas 10.4.8 AMD/Intel DVD. First partition a large partition for Leo. Second partition a very small partition for Tiger. Installed Tiger on the small partition. Booted into it and created account, downloaded Startupfile tool just in case, etc....
Booted the modified ToH DVD and installed Leopard on the large partition. Then nothing would boot so I had to boot up with the DVD again and use Startupfile so it would boot.
Booted into Tiger and ran Marvin's on the newly installed Leopard partition. Inserted NVInject. Modified the needed kexts for video card.
Booted right into Leopard. :-))
I have since installed EFI v8. (I installed EFI v5 first and have since updated to v8.) I have installed all updates that have came out. (Careful to remove AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext that came with 10.5.2)

I'm using Netkas' AppleSMBIos.kext.
I'm using the IONetworkingFamily.kext that is in the Time Machine fix link in the topic of the Leopard channel on irc.osx86.hu
I'm running the 9.2.2 kernel and System.kext posted somewhere on this board....

Hmmm...What else..........Those are the only kexts I've replaced since install back in....I think it was November. Some got replaced with updates along the way, obviously, but I don't remember what they were. I didn't worry about them. Just let the updates install them. I always run Marvin's after major updates like the 10.5.2...etc. (From Tiger) Plus I run it on the /Applications directory and /Library directory after some installs. (I know Toast has some CPUIDs that need patched..) There are some others too.....In these cases, I just run it from within Leopard. Doesn't hurt.

That's about it. All I can think of at the moment....

hahaha!! No problem. I don't blame you at all. Intel rigs are a lot less trouble. The only reason I have AMD is because it was all I could afford at the time. I will be going Intel one of these days / years. :-P
