Hi guys, i'm fairly new to osx (been using linux - gnome - for long time). after i switched to osx, i got hooked, and i have to say i can't use anything else now. well, i can, but i just don't like it
there are just a few usability issues i have with osx:
1. thumbnail caching. on gnome all the thumbnails are cached, so if i open a folder with lots of files inside, the thumbnail display is instantaneous. osx seems to generate thumbnail on-the-fly, which is ok for images (it's really fast given the fact that they are not cached), but for movies is kind of slow.
it's kind of slow for large images also. it seems to have some sort of caching, when leaving a directory and then coming back, but if i close finder it will generate them again. is there any way to keep the cache somewhere even after closing finder?

2. on nautilus (gnome file manager), the files thumbnails can be different in size than the folder icons. this comes in handy when you have a folder with subfolders and image files. if i set the thumbnail size to 128x128 to get a better look at the thumbnails, the folder icons are 128x128 too, which just looks ugly. any way around this?

3. any way of setting the folder display automatically by the type of files inside?
for example: if a folder has images in it, automatically set the thumbnail size for the files inside to 128x128.
i know that this can be done manually, and finder will remember the settings, but if you have many images folders then it's a pain to do it this way. i know that you can set this in the parent folder, but this way all the subfolders thumbnails will be 128x128.

thanks.
