You need to back-up your Kernel Binary - located in /mach_kernel to ensure your system will still work after doing the update, as you need a) a Kernel that doesn't check for your CPU & b) the Voodoo Kernel to patch the CPUIDs to make OS X work on AMD.
Also you should take a Back-up of system.kext & seatbelt.kext and reapply them, if you want to continue using your old Kernel version.
