Yeah, DSDT is your best friend. You'll definitely want to get well educated on it if you want your system to work properly (or at least as close as possible). The VoodooHDA is not too bad once you do some reading on that link. It will have everything you need to get it working (though you may have to read through the entire thread).

In regards to the combo update, if you have NullCPUPowermanagement.kext, fakesmc.kext, and the latest legacy 10.6.8 kernel, you should be good to go. Also make sure that those kexts are in your /Extra/Extensions/ folder. If you don't have an Extra folder or don't know what it is, you should really do some more research on the chameleon boot loader. If you have those kexts and have downloaded the latest legacy 10.6.8 kernel (you'll want to install this before installing the combo update), then you should be ok.

To patch your DSDT, google DSDTSE and download it. It has tons of built in fixes you can try. Most of them tell you what you need to look for in your own DSDT and how to patch them. Some won't work for your board or aren't needed. You'll just have to do some research on the different fixes that it has as you come to them.

Also, I would highly recommend finding on of the distributions like Hazard's or iAtkos S3 V2 which include many of the kexts you need as well as bootloaders, though there are probably more that have more updated stuff. I'm not an expert on the different distributions though since I've only used iAtkos S3 V2 (10.6.3) and updated it.

Good luck.
