What worked for me in 10.5.6 is to start up in safe mode (using -x at the boot loader) and then this program:

Install an EFI string for the Radeon 3800 512MB - MEGALODON. The other two options did not work.

Can Confirm Dougs results, Diamond 512mb 3850 in a core 2 build, Sapphire 512mb 3850 on AMD build, full qe/ci hardware accelaration, fairly cool (for a 3850) Megaldon with EFI studio for the win, graci to MitchDE for that one.
