As far I know, you cannot install LION if you dont have Snow Leopard 10.6.8. The upgrade process would be easy if there was a Legacy Kernel...

I installed Leopard using SNOWLEO MAC Snow Leopard OSX86_64 For INTEL/AMD 32/64 MBR/GUID because I m noob too and this is the easiest way. If you want to find this installation disk, ask almighty Google :P
But if you want to do it the other way, try searching forums... there are probably step by step instructions somewhere. If not here, maybe on insanleymac.com
