help sleep broken w/ thinkpad t61 iatkos v7

My thinkpad t61 sleeps, but only if I go to select sleep via the shutdown menu (which btw does not come up when I press the power button on my laptop), and when it DOES sleep I cannot wake it up no matter what I press. The little half moon icon blinks which it never did under vista/xp/ubuntu, and I have to hold down the power button to force it to shut off, and only then can I boot it up. When I close the lid it does not sleep, it only shuts the display off until I open it. I've tried the OpenHaltRestart.kext, the voodoopower.kext and I'm running out of ideas. I've done my duty as far as searching, google, this forum, insanelymac, forums.thinkpad.com, but I haven't found anything relevant to my particular issue except for a few posts by people with similar problems that had no responses.

Can anyone point me in the right direction here?
