Installing leopard on an External USB HD??

Hi!

Is it possible to install Leopard on an external USB HD? What about later setting the BIOS to boot from the USB drive? Will it work?

I thought about using iATKOS 5i.

My configuration is DELL Inspiron 1545, Intel T6400 (x64) with 4GB RAM.

Thanks alot for your help!

Hi Funky..

Im a new comer to this forum and also to the mac.

Wat i came across was:

-u have to first select the disk utility and create image of the installation dvd(ul get a .dmg file).
-then select ur external hd, format it to mac extended(journaled).
-select restore tab and give source as the .dmg jus created destination will be ur entire external harddrive or its partition and hit restore.
-then select system preference and startup disk and select the external hd there and hit restart.
-now installation begins for the external hd similiar to installing from dvd.
-u will be thus able to install..
jus try this out.
As i said i'm a newbie here and this is jus wat i came across and haven't tried..

Funky,
It works just fine booting from a USB HD. I recommend iPC OSX86 FINAL, which is what I use on my laptop setup. For compatibility with your hardware, check the following link.

Good luck!

itīs rather nice beeing able to install osx on external drives (even memory sticks) or putting the install dvd on an usb-stick.

i have such a external install as a spare system in case of emergency.

Boot from USB drive

My motherboard is a little flakey with booting off USB devices.. With Chameleon 2.0 RC1 I was able to plug my USB-HDD in, and it would detect it and I could boot off of it, without going through the BIOS. Nifty.

Previously known as NebulOSX. MacBook, 2.1GHz Core 2 Duo Penryn, 2GB RAM, x3100 Graphics. - Mac Nano (Benchmarks)- Gigabyte GA-GC230D, Intel Atom 230 1.7GHZ (Overclocked), 2GB 533Mhz RAM, Mac OS X Leopard: Boot132 Method. ULTRAcheap build. With desktop GMA950 graphics fix.
