Kernel Panics LawlessPPC
Hey everyone. Been on this forum many times but today i have a need to post. I am running LawlessPPC 10.5.4 on an AMD machine. All goes well except for when i un-zip a file using the built in zip (archive utility) or macpar deluxe, or going on to newsgroups. I can make the OS kernel panic on queue by doing one of these activities and for the life of me cannot figure out why. Ok now here are my computer specs:
AMD Phenom 9950 MSI K9A2 Platinum Motherboard Corsair 4GB of Ram Radeon 3650 Video Card 500GB Western Digital Drive Samsung DVD Drive Sony Blu-Ray Drive (Not seen by OS X, but i know why and thats totally ok) Antec 850W power supply. WHen i installed the LawlessPPC i checked only the drivers i needed and nothing more. I have no idea what kernel im using since i a) dont know how to find out and b) doesnt show you when you install the OS. I have also run the Universal Tools as well with no fix. Has anyone else seen this? Is it my hardware? Is it the OS? SHould i try another OS? Other than LawlessPPC, what have you guys found works great on an AMD Phenom? THanks a lot guys. |

Should you try another distro? You always can grab newer one like iPC. But first things first - it may ( at least i think it may ) be related to kernel. What version are u using ? Install newest Voodoo kernel and try again - but im not sure if it works with 10.5.4 system, so if not - then try 10.5.6 distro.

would i go about it by just installing a stand alone kernal? or get a newer distro and install the kernal from there? sorry for the ignorance.
P.S. I tried iPC but it would not boot on my system for whatever reason. |

also i know that having an intel machine is much safer for obvious reasons in terms of installing and doing updates, i have an intel machine. would it be worth while to just use that machine? if so, what distro do you all recommend for an intel box? any? and am i right to say that you can do updates from software update safely with an intel machine?

get the latest voodoo kernel 9.5 then upgrade the system to 10.5.5. The other i will add is you will have to reinstall the graphics drivers after the update. So once everything has updated you will need to boot with -v -f -x then from there install graphics driver. Otheriwse you will just get a scrambled screen because apple will replace your current driver.

There you go, kernel with an installer. Just download it and run the installer package. Remember that it is for 10.5.5 and higher and may not work properly on 10.5.4 ( though it worked for me ) www.ultimae.com Panoramic music, for panoramic people. ive just realised you have 4gb of memory that will be your problem. With over 3.5gb of memory osx will panic randomly unless you have a 64bit chipset driver. Take a gig or 2 out and see how it goes!!!
