Mac OS Tiger 10.4 bootup hangs on mDNSResponder

Hi,

I am 100% new to Macs.

I am trying to install Mac OS Tiger on my x86 SSE2 laptop that was purchased in 2005.

When I bootup I am getting a message.

mDNSResponder-108 ... starting

This line stays there forever and nothing happens.

Any ideas, directions, software recommendations, or anything else are 100% appreciated. Again, I am new to using Macs.

Thanks you.

Andre

I found some custom optional software on the install CD. Installed the options.

Now, when I bootup, I see the error

ktext[28] a link/load error occured for kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins/ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext

This error is followed by a backtrace.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this error?

Thanks.

Andre

By some accidental guess and luck I did the following.

I used the GParted Live CD to remove the boot flag from the partition where Mac OS Tiger resides.

Next, with the Install CD, in the CD-ROM drive, I booted up.

Now, I am past the 'Keyboard' configuration part. I am at the 'Your Network Configuration' part.

So far, the situation feels much better.

Thanks.
