Malicious Trojan Virus in pirated iWork
Not that anyone would be using a pirated copy of iWork but this just goes to show that the focus on OSX is growing.

That's with newer torrents that are publicly available.
I got my copy from -----------, of which there is only 1 torrent and it didn't have the trojan. Lets remember to leave the specifics out. ![]() Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.8 (9L30) | Chameleon 2.0 RC3 | Intel Pentium 4 3Ghz 800Mhz FSB HyperThread 1MB L2 cache SSE3 1MB L2 cache works, cosmetic display of 512KB L2 cache | Asus P4V8X-MX VIA Chipset, VIA-VT8237 Southbridge | AC97 VIA8237 | Dual 1GB 333Mhz DDR SDRAM | nVidia PNY GeForce 7600GS 512MB 8x AGP DVI/TV-Out/VGA [NVinject 0.2.1; QE/CI/QuartzGL/Rotation] | Darwin Kernel Version 9.7.0: Sun Jun 14 20:48:28 IST 2009; Voodoo 2.0 Intel alpha3 :xnu-1228.12.14/BUILD/obj/RELEASE_I386 i386 Last edited by lanceomni; 01-23-2009 at 09:13 PM. |

Im not really trying to warn anyone. Im trying to point out that with more interest in the OS comes more focus from maliciously minded people. Obviously having direct access to apps before they install makes it easy to insert malicious code so Im not saying OSX is weak by any means. Im just saying that OSX is pretty secure because of its design and also because of the use percentage and as this percentage grows so will the likelihood we will start seeing more and more malicious behavior.

An OS is only as secure as it's user base makes it.
Unfortunately, a LOT of Mac users feel like they're immune to these types threats, which means that when the focus of virus/ trojan writers does turn to OS X they will more than likely have a very easy time infecting a LOT of machines. That whole thing about history repeating itself if you don't learn from it. ![]() |

If you are downloading the trial version of iWork directly from Apple then using an "obtained" serial, this will not apply.
