I'm thinking of installing OSx10.5.7 on my msi gx620.
I know there are many distros of OSx but I'm not sure which one would be the most compatible with my laptop.
I've done searches, but a lot of my questions are too broad to yield any useful results.

These are my specs:
I'm not exactly sure of the audio device, but the control panel for it is the REATEK HD Audio manager.

I've downloaded iATKOS v7. Is this a reasonable distro for my pc?

Also, while looking around, I've read that you need an external USB, dvd drive, or ext HD.
What exactly would I need to install OSx on my pc?

edit: apparently my audio device is the Realtek ALC888. I still don't know the model of my wireless card. How should I find this information?
nvm found it! I accidently had it turned off so it wasn't showing up. My wireless adapter is an Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 5100.

You dont really need an external drive to install, you just need a dedicated partition for OS X, so you could always repartition your main drive, assuming its a single partition and you want to keep your current OS, you would split it into 2 partitions, one i.e. for Vista and the other for OS X. That can be done erasing everything in the hard drive or with some live partition tools like Parted Magic or similar.

I was planning to install OSx from the beginning so I already have an empty 50gb partition.

Somewhere on a forum a guy panicked because he lost all his data when trying to install OSx onto a partition.

I'm kind of worried about what could cause this. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

btw, I have vista installed currently, and an empty partition so far.

edit: I'm installing right now, and selecting the patches. What do I select for SMBIOS?

installed successfully, constant reboot at the iatkos installer, fixed by using cpus=1.

no driver patches for audio were required or wired ethernet, they work fine.

microphone does not work, but then again it didn't in vista unless I used microphone boost; which I cannot find in OSX.

Any way I can enable this?

Wifi can't be tested as I don't run a wireless network, but last time I checked there are no drivers for the intel wifi link 5100.

cpu detected & gfx card detected correctly.

sleep does not work - kills my computer screen.


edit: Ouch. I can't boot into vista now. I'm greeted by a black screen which after about half a seconds just reboots my computer. No error message or anything. Just a black screen. Any ideas on how I can boot back into vista?

I just installed iAtkos v7 on mine and it didn't go so well. I got the mouse+keyboard working by using the appropriate patch. I was able to change resolution after I used nvinject. Sound did not work for me at all. Speedstep patch causes kernel panic. Any help?

I got problems too. Graphic is not working, sound is not working.

Arctic can you give us more detailed instructions on how you installed it?
