As I wrote I recommend you to boot Linux, get codec dump (Usually can be found somewhere in /proc/asound/card*/codec#*) and patch AppleHDA using latest Taruga Patcher.
Anyway you are right, having a real Mac as mobile device rules - things like the matching keyboard layout and things like that make it worth alone. (I even prefer my quite old G4 iBook towards my hacked netbook...)
