Suggestions for installing Snow Leopard
Hello everyone!
I was using Leo about year ago, but unninstalled it because I had some problems with it, so I wonder if there are bug fixes on Snow Leo? Here is my configuration: MSI 945PL Neo-F ICH7 Intel P4 3,06 GHz Gainward nVidia GeForce 7600GS 320Gb Hitachi & 80Gb Maxtor Creative Sound Blaster USB (I know its old machine, but I'm in love with Mac ![]() Now, I have iPC x86 Leo 10.5.6 universal PPF5 installation disc, so I wonder if I need to download some new Snow Leo version to install it (if it exists) or I have to install this and than upgrade it? Does Snow Leo supports NTFS partition "read/write", or its just "read" like the old one? This is all for now, there will be probably more questions in the future. I hope you can help me in my decision wheter to install it or not. Thanx in advance. |

I've downloaded Snow Leo with these characteristics:
Quote:
When I boot it it shows me gray screen with apple in the middle and thats it, no installation or any activity. Probably its Kernel problem, so which kernel should I use for this version and how to put it into the installation DVD? |

Yes this is a Kernel Problem - you can boot Vanilla on Intel Core architecture only.
Intel Pentium 4 with 3,06Ghz will most likely be a Northwood Series one - so you don't even have SSE3 support - for the reason that currently avaible Darwin 10.x mod Kernels have no flawlessly working SSE3 emulation layer, I would recommend you to stay with 10.5.8 + Voodoo XNU or to spend some money for better hardware. Voodoo Kernel is as I wrote for use with 10.5 Leopard - you can't use it with the SL image you have downloaded (it's useless on your HW) - but it is for example part of that iPC image you have....

It might be possible using one of the SL Kernels that have been patched based on quoopz diff - but as I told you, there are apparently issues using not SSE3 capable hardware with Snow Leopard http://www.infinitemac.com/f36/sse2-...4398/post43902

I've installed Hazard's Snow Leo for SSE2 SSE3 but when I boot it, it stops on apple boot screen, gray with apple on it. What should I do?

Without the spinning wheel? Have you selected any mod Kernel from Customization?
Otherwise; what do you get when you attempt to boot in verbose mode (using -v bootflag)? 💡 Deploy cloud instances seamlessly on DigitalOcean. Free credits ($100) for InfMac readers.
