Boxer - play your old DOS games on your Mac!
Ever heard of the program Boxer? No? But maybe of DOSBox, an MS-DOS emulator for the Mac? Boxer is a special version which is specially made for games. It allows you to play the classic MS-DOS games which are often more fun than today's blown-up games.
Hmmm... MS-DOS as game platform? There were games for it? Yes, there were! I was surprised, too. On the demon there is a 8 gig-sized package with more than 2300 games and three packages with preinstalled games for the Mac using Boxer. There are a lot of conversions, for the Amiga, the C64 and Arcade games. Here's a classic game to test: Turrican II. The gfx looks a bit different compared to the Amiga version, but the sound is the original and the game is real fun. I created a .dmg which includes Boxer 0.72 and a readme file which also includes the cheat. The installation is easy: Create a folder called 'Boxer' in your Applications folder, put Boxer into it and start it once. A MS-DOS window will appear, you can close it. Now copy the Turrican II file to the folder and start it like a normal application. Have fun! Last edited by naquaada; 10-21-2008 at 02:19 PM. |

Here's a new game package: Boxer Games 1
The image contains 11 games, but not all will work on the image, so copy them to your harddisk. Some instructions are included. Press command-F for fullscreen and command-L to unlock the mouse in some games. You can adjust the game speed with command and cursor up/down. Info: The most of these old games are copyright-free today, so I think it's ok to keep the links on this site. Last edited by naquaada; 10-21-2008 at 02:22 PM. |
