I have tried several times to install 10.5.2 kalyway but all I get is sometimes a grey screen, other times a nebula picture, but no installation screen at all.

Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

If you run Windows with VMWare then you should consider to use the proper release for this purpose, which is called Leo4VMware by PCWiz. :-)
