yes it causes USB issues, you need to have matching versions so that when you stick something in it is recognised, otherwise you will need to put it in before the system boots for it to recognise it.
umm as for what you should do, if you have a backup before you updated restore that, do the update and only patch your audio. that should work...hopefull  can never be sure with OSx86 :P
