Bad performce after upgrading to Vanilla Kernel

I was using Leo4All at 10.5.4. I wanted to be able to download updates straight from apple, so I decided to go with Vanilla. After installing the vanilla kernel, it seems performance has gone down. I see this when switching windows and during some movies. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Setup

mobo: Asus P5w DH Deluxe
GPU: eVga 8800GTS 320MB
CPU: 2.13 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
MEM: 2GB
HD: WD 120GB IDE

I followed this guide with a Boot 132 Asus disk

Have you tried the voodoo kernel? This will run like vanilla on supported systems like yours, but it also has many optimisations/tweaks for pc hardware.
