Which, mind you, is not really supported all that well and can provide more bugs and instability than the official Voodoo XNU 9.5.0 kernel. I would recommend iPC (yes, shameless plug) 10.5.6. It's very stable even with the 9.5.0 kernel (I use it everyday). There really isn't much other difference between the two distro's though.

Sry, on my system iPC had so many errors, I had to replace so much stuff and it still wasn't working properly. The XxX image worked perfectly from the beginning, has a very good installation menu, and it allows a correct installation on different partitions, most images only make partition 1 bootable. The supplied 9.6.0 kernel runs without problems on my AMD cpu, I updated the system using Apple Software Update without any patches. The only problem on the image are the missing language packs, but that was no problem, I installed it later. There's a very enthanced 'Energy Saving' preferences pane on it with very complex settings. It has no lightbulb icon anymore, it's now a spiral-shaped enegry-saving lamp.
I presume iPC was created mainly for Intel hardware based on a retail disc. But for AMD it's no good image, too many files had to be replaced. Other people with AMD had similar problems than me. I also tested the DL image with the Server package, same problems. I was rather frustrated because there were no good 10.5.6 images out there, but the XxX image is really a good one. 2 Opteron systems: OSx86 10.5.8, Andy's 9.8.0 kernel, Asus A8N-SLI Premium, Opteron 185 o'clocked @ 2 x 2,95 GHz (2nd system 2.6 GHz), ATI Radeon HD2600XT 256MB Dual-Monitor 2x HP L2035, 4 GB RAM, Griffin FireWave as main audio device, Marvell + nForce LAN, Asus U3S6 USB3/SATA6 card, 5,5 TB harddisk, Firewire 800 card, Apple Remote + eHome IR receiver, 2x Wacom serial graphics tablet, Canon Pixma iP4700, Logitech Internet Navigator wireless keyboard/mouse combination. Oh my. I'm sorry that it didn't work well for you. It was supposed to be universal because of Voodoo and it's op code patching on the fly, but I'm personally not familiar with AMD as I do not own an AMD based system and neither does ~pcwiz, so we could only test for Intel anyway. We sent it to other testers, but only one that I knew of reported back and I do not think he had AMD either. Plus, with the fickle nature of AMD systems, it was just bad luck for most people since we couldn't test it all. We tried are best to accommodate everyone but it just didn't happen because of our love for Intel. Again, I'm sorry.
But as far as Intel goes, it should work fine. Still waiting for root device
This is generally one of three things: 1. If you are using PATA (The old IDE Ribbon Cable Drives) you will want to make sure that the drive you are installing to is set to MASTER via the jumpers and the actual drive itself. Id also recommend that you have the drive on the cable's first connector. 2. If you are using SATA drives try going into the BIOS and changing the SATA Mode from AHCI to IDE. 3. Chipset related. If your booting the install disk and are getting this issue and the first two do not fix the problem its probably chipset related. In the case of SATA, some motherboards have more than one SATA control and so one or the other may be compatible. You can check your user manual or online to see if this is the case and then plug into the appropriate connector. Intel DG43NB ICH10
I installed using iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Universal Final. Here are the specs.
Desktop: Mobo Intel DG43NB CPU Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33 GHz Chipset ICH10 VidMobo GMA X4500 (not used on my system) Video nVidia 9400 GT Audio Realtek ALC888VC LAN Intel 82567V Hd Western Digital 500GB SATA DVD Sony DRU-865S Ram 2x2GB DDR2 Corsair 4GB total Monitor Acer H213H 16:9 1080P (1920X1080) 21.5" Camera Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 USB Kingston Datatraveler 8GB Printer/ Fax/ Scanner Brother MFC-440CN via ethernet Here is how I installed. 1. Boot from DVD 2. Partition/format/erase disk as needed. Use Disk Utility from the Utilities drop down menu. 3. Continue and then agree to install 4. Select the target drive and continue 5. CUSTOMIZE Select these Base System Drivers Legacy Time Machine Fix Chipset ICH10 SATA Audio Legacy AppleHDA ALC888:0 (note the path. this is not the first level ALC driver) Ethernet Intel 82566MM/DC USB Drivers Patched USB FixPatch PS/2 Device Support PS/2 Keyboard Fix (use this if needed. I use mac kybd so I left it off) DSDT Patch DSDT AppleSMBIOS Patch AppleSMBIOSResolver Applications load all, check top level item which will select all underneath Install. This will give you a system with generic lo-res video, sound, ethernet, usb mount, DVD. In essence, a fully working system sans hi-res video. (sleep will not work. Look up the fix for this elsewhere. I saw it somewhere, but have not put that fix into my system yet.) Go to Applications and start EFIStudio and fix your video. Reboot, restarting with -f. Run OSx86 Tools and enable Quartz GL, and modify your About this Mac if you like. (careful not to put too many characters. I think I did and mine is messed up. No big for me as I will reproduce this load to my first hd partition before blessing it as my "Golden" install. This good install in on hd2 currently for stress testing and mods.) So that is it. I Browse,ITune, I Rip Audio, run Xbench, with a score of 167 BTW, play DVD, use PhotoBooth (my daughter and my favorite), Download in Safari, Download in Torrent, mount .dmg's, connect USB devices. No issues so far, except for the aforementioned sleep issue. Good luck with your install. Last edited by HappyQuadCore; 04-30-2009 at 09:28 AM. |
