Red face iATKOS 5i HELP

I will discuss 2 machines in this thread:
1. My primary acer aspire x1700. (nfo)
-OSs: 7, Vista, XP
2. My revived Dell Dimension 8400
-OS: Ubuntu 9.10

My acer boots the CD, I press enter (or -v, or cpus=1, or anything else), and it restarts. Doesn't even get to the installer.
My dell installs fine (with voodoo and a few drivers), then gives an Apple Logo with an (/) sign. [In verbose or safe mode, it says: Still waiting for root device...]

No hackintosh forum has helped me (they just ignore me ) so far, so I hope you guys can.

Now I try cpus=1, and it gets to the apple logo. [I have a dual-core processor]. BUT..... I get a (/) on it ON THE DVD. Hmmm...

Any ideas?
