Okay copied the modified video kexts from my 10.5.5 installation into my new 10.5.7 installation and bingo I now have full resolution capabilities. Guess the only thing left to do now is to browse for a new video card for this old bird and see if I can find one that is supported natively in 10.5.7, I do not plan on trying to "fix" this machine any further. I think she has gone as far as I can push her and surprisingly for an "older" box she runs pretty smooth....next comes Snow Leopard on my new machine.
Thanks so much for all your help and patients. I have learned more in the past two days about Mac than I have ever dreamed I would.
