Frozen grey apple = useless information. You need to boot with -v option so you can see the boot log and see where/why its freezing.
You should need no Voodoo kernel for an Intel Core CPU, better to stick with vanilla.
You may have troubles with a Quad though, you may need to boot with cpus=1 option (to use only one core) and find a dsdt fix to use all cores.
