ideneb 1.4 (10.5.6); kernel panic on boot; intel 915

Hi, I tried installing ideneb 1.4 on my HP a1020n:

Intel 915 chipset
PTGD-LA Motherboard (Asus)
P4 519J 3.0 ghz (supports sse3,sse2 etc.)
Graphics integrated; gma 915
200GB SATA Harddrive

I tried using vanilla kernel with cpu=1 fix (and just miscellanious stuff such as wireless drivers; also I didn't assign sound or graphics drivers; I downloaded the combo fix for 10.5.7 which has the drivers for the chipset which I was planning to install after I got basic OSX installed) but the computer gets stuck at the boot logo w. the circle and cross over it (kernel panic.)

This also happens with sse3 kernel and voodoo (also with the same configurations above but seatbelt with voodoo.)

I'm going crazy. I can't even boot osx (let alone deal with the probable other problems such as sleep.)

Also, for boot options, I did -x, -v, -f, kernel=voodoo (to no avail.)
Advice?
Should I just download 10.5.5 (I heard from success stories with the ich-fix patch, which was not included with the ideneb 10.5.6 for some reason.)

Is it a bios issue? I already disabled XD and set the graphics memory to 8mb. I couldn't find an option to disable HT in the Awardbios so I'm assuming that the cpu doesn't support it anyways.

Also, while running verbrosse mode, it loops "still waiting for root device."

EDIT: Just tried sleep kernel, still to no avail.
Could anyone clerify if I should use the acpi patch?

Before the root device message, in verbrosse it also says

error: firewire unable to determine security mode; defaulting to full secure.

Would disabling FW lead to a possible success story.

EDIT: I disabled FW from bios, ran verbrosse (also with -f), I don't have the FW error message but another one popped up:
"RTL8139::fixEnetFlowControl - Flow Control is disabled"

I'm guessing it can't read from the HD? Possible fix anyone.

EDIT2: After extensive lurking; I've discovered that the chipset; prescott (aka 915P) uses ICH 5.0; let's try installing ideneb for the 12th time. Wow this post is turning more into a diary.

I got it to work under these configurations for the a1020n HP:

iDeneb 1.4 (10.5.6)
Voodoo Kernel
Seatbelt Patch
ICHx Chipset
No sound / wireless kexts; can be installed later

The problem now is that these don't work:
ALC880 (sound)
INTEL 915 GMA (graphics)
Realtek RTL8101L LAN (ethernet)
zydas 1211b (wifi; I need help for this actually, can someone explain how to install this one, it detects it as an ethernet [I used the zydas driver from ideneb])
16x DVD(+/-)R/RW DL LightScribe drive (DVD; need desperately for this to work)

EDIT: the dvd drive is a LG gwa-4162b
