No, I have not tried an IDE DVD drive. I don't have one. The message(s) I get when booting with -v are many... not sure what constitutes an error but here is a sampling of fishy looking stuff before my screen goes blank:
AppleNForce found 0 units
mDNS responder[27]: couldn't read user-specified local host name; using.....
IOKitWaitQuiet() timed out wiating for kernel symbols
AppleNForce found 0 units
then it goes to a black screen and I have to reboot
I also tried -v -f with the same result. I did a little bit of poking around and found this
kext IOATAFamily.kext. Will this help me?
UPDATE: I retried this installation with a 100GB USB drive - it worked! I was booted into the mac video and set up my system. No sound, no Ethernet. Now that the system is working, can I install additional kexts and eventually transfer the image to another HDD? I realize you don't have time to provide me with all the answers, but a short response is appreciated - this is my first successful install of OSX86. Thanks Lawless!
