Nevermind, I worked it out!
I finally managed to work out how to add the patches from the iPC install disk after the event and found from Google that I needed to add the Realtek1000 driver. This has sorted the problem.
Motherboard: GigaByte EP35-DS4
CPU: Intel Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz, RAM: 8GB (4 x 2GB)
GPU: NVidia 9800GT, OSX: iPC 10.5.6
