It looks like a disk issue, check your HD for errors, and try cleaning or reburning the DVD.

Is this when you are booting from DVD or after Installation?

If it's the DVD try to boot up using latest Kernel by typing "/mach_970" at the boot prompt.

Did you select nForce SATA/IDE under Customize during Setup?

I am sorry I missunderstood you, skiped that you made use of an other DVD drive and thought that error ocured on HD installation...

Well your second problem looks more serious then the first one.
If it's SATA try to set it to AHCI mode in your BIOS, if it's possible.

Furthermore I recommend you to try the hint I gave you in my first posting, using the drive you tried for the first time.

When you boot up from your DVD some screen with a count-down will show up, if you hit some key during this you'll get to the prompt where you can hit your boot command, should look like this:

If the 9.7 Kernel gives you a panic also you may try the ToH Kernel, which is on the DVD also by using "/toh" as boot command. Hope one of them will work for you.
