It is NOT expected to freeze, at least it never did it here. It will usually reboot twice, one right after applying the update from OS X, and the second while its loading for the first time, but it will reboot on its own, not freezing your machine.
The dontstealmacosx.kext doesnt really need to be deleted, but you need to have dsmos.kext or AppleDecrypt.kext installed of course.
I dont know if you need to boot in single user mode, maybe thats whats preventing the update to complete...

But remember, install voodoo 9.5.0 kernel ( system.kext will install along ) before it ( if you dont use it atm of course ). Restart your computer, and then begin the update as described in attached thread. Take notice that 10.5.5 introduced graphics updates do you'll have to delete/install anew all your gfx kexts after the update. I have made an update like this from 10.5.4 to 10.5.6, and then from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7 and it worked with no problems, so it should work here as well.

hey Taisto ...after readin ol the steps and performing them perfectly as described in the link by u ..i tried to update from 10.5.4 to 10.5.5 to install my 9500 GT drivers..
after successfully completing the update installation the pc tried to restart ..which could nt be competed as it gt stuck while switching off the busy sign kept showin aftr evry icon disappeard ..nd it continued for 1/2 n hr(nd there was no blinkin lights of the HDD) so i manually restarted it ..nd followd the step of F8-> mach_kernel_old -x ...bt my pc dinn start ...

I need to update it to run my grafix properly ..is there any other thing that can help me ....or any odr way i can install drivers of my grafix card on 10.5.4.shal i try a combo update of 10.5.6 as u said in yr post that u updated from10.5.4 to 10.5.6..

My PC specs are :

GF615-P33 (MS-7597)
AMD Phenom II X4 810 Processor
