a good place to start will be with your system details... even a model number for the HP laptop is a good place to start... you can then pull the specs for it from a quick Google search and repost. Then we'll know what will best serve you.
EDIT: the specs we are looking for are: motherboard model or northbridge/southbridge chipsets, audio chipset, Video, etc.
This should be good enough to start with for those of us able to give (good) advice.
