I have had great results with iATKOS 5i (10.5.5)
The Core i7 is recognised as a true 4 core processor if you turn off HyperThreading in the bios. When you turn on Hypethreading, OSX reports o processors, 7 cores (actually 8 because they count from 0 ie. 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7 = 8) .... either way my machine with genuine Intel mobo DX58SO works like a demon on OSX. Hope it helps you. Here's my install tut if it helps - original post here: For those wanting a good, clean, robust, stable i7 Intel DX58SO Hackintosh this was my install options: Please note: this gave me a very stable and usable system ,very fast but NOT updateable to 10.5.6. I am busy with help from Pere at Uphuck forum to work out how to get the Stock Kernel running on this hardware and as soon as we figure that out I will update this tut. But for now this existing method below works like a charm for me. Anyone who figures it out first post it here and let us know. Right now I am suitably impressed with the way my system operates right now on 10.5.5, I think Snow Leopard will probably sort out OSX and Core-i7 machines and X64 architecture once and for all and it does not seem it's too far off. This post is a work in progress, it will be updated as and when I discover more stuff. First off here's my system specs: Intel DX58SO Motherboard (Latest Bios 3504) Intel Core i7 965 XE 4 x 2GB Kingston DDR3-1333 (1.5v) Intel SATA2 Hard Drive Samsung Sata DVD Drive GEForce 9800GT Video Card NEC 30" LCD (IPS) - LCD3090wqxi DX58SO Bios: - I did not change any BIOS settings Here's my install options - iATKOS 5i 10.5.5: Main System Chameleon Boot Loader (uncheck PC EFI V9) Apple Decrypt DSMos SMBIOS-EFI SMBIOS-Enabler AppleSMBIOS-28 9.5.0 FASSL Kernel X86 ACPI DISABLER.KEXT Graphics Update Nvidia>Natit (not the other Natit higher up on the drivers tree) Intel SATA Intel AHCI Sata NTFS-3G Intel-Pro100VE (does not work need other kexts after system is working) - My install is on a dedicated hard drive so it does not mess with my Vista OS so that part was easy, simply open Disk Utility and format the whole drive using GUID partition type, Mac OS Extended (Journaled) then install to that drive. Enable the boot menu option (F10) in your bios so that you can easily boot between drives, later you can play with a boot manager to make this easier. If you want to install in the same driver as your Vista, you are on your own but there are many great tutorials here and around the web to help you. - Install and you should have a perfectly functioning system except for Ethernet and Sound. I will update this post with the working ethernet and audio drivers and will post a full list of loaded kexts once I have completed that. - after this basic install (without any additional patches) you will notice your Core-i7 is recognised, it does not display properly in the system monitor where it only shows 1 CPU but in System Profiler it detects 7 cores which is actually 8 as they count from 0 ie. 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7 (= 8 cores) ... YAY !!! all I can say is that by the 10.5.7 update it will probably have proper i7 support but who actually cares what system profiler says, the proof is in the pudding and you will see your system fly like a beast. UPDATE: - The working Ethernet driver for the Intel DX58SO motherboard is the Intel82566MM.Kext - http://techresearchinfo.blogspot.com/ - The working sound driver is the new VoodooHDA.kext - see this topic I will keep this post updated as I know there will be many DX58SO mobo owners who will want to try OSX, so far I am ecstatic at the performance over Vista or Windows 7 (Beta). hello there,
im new mac osx86 user, own an i7 (DX58SO-920cpu) and i achieved to install osx86 with iAtkos i5 version only. All previous times, was re-setting the bios as per insanelymac forum. Anyway, all the times i was updating the Mac to 10.5.7 succesfully but unfortunately i believe that it was not stable, after few restarts,,, had kernel panic or freezing at loading. Just couple of hours ago, i found your forum, and followed all the instructions(except of nvidia option, i own ATI) with the patches needed and options etc and succesfully installed osx86 using iAtkos i5. My Question is, will i be able to update to 10.5.7 and keep it stable ? Config: Intel DX58SO Mobo Intel Core i7 - 920 ATI HD3870 2x2GB Kingston RAM SATA HDD 320GB 7200RPM SATA DVDRW |
