sorry for low quality.

Booted OSX 10.6 Retail DVD with Empire-EFI, mounted my hackintosh system partition, removed file SleepEnabler.kext from
/Extra/Extensions/

I got a kernel panic...
so I can't go into safety mode (-s), but if I can install mac on a flash drive (I have done before) and remove SleepEnabler, I'll be fine?

I'm really stuck on this guys and I was wondering if you could help me out. I have no experience using the terminal.

So, i have the kernal panic issue with the sleepenabler. it wont boot into verbose or single user mode, but it will obviously boot from the installation DVD.

Is there a guide available which will show me how to mount my drive, and disable the sleepenabler? If not, is there any chance that one of you would be kind enough to give me a quick step by step? I would really appreciate it.

thanks in advance

What I did was download the MacDrive demo, then just delete the kext from sys/lib/ext

Hope this helps!

I updated successfully taking caution to remove the sleep enabler kext (that didn't work anyway) and everything still works fine and dandy except for my GMA X4500 graphics crad that used to work on 10.6.2.

  • Toshiba l455 series
  • 4gbs of RAM
  • Intel GMA X4500m graphics card
  • pentium dual core processor 2.20 ghz
  • 320 gb hard drive
  • Realtek RTL8102E/RTL8103E Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20)
  • Realtek RTL8187B Wireless 802.11b/g 54Mbps USB 2.0 Network Adapter
-------------------------------------------------------
snowosx universal 10.6.4- Everything working except quartzgl and quartz extreme

Hi there. Thanks for your fast reply. Unfortunately, I am not dual booting my system, so I can't log into windows and then access the mac drive from another operating system.

All I have is access to terminal (after booting up from the install DVD), and as I mentioned, I am not proficient in using the terminal at all...

If anyone could help me I would be most grateful.

I'm not the best at terminal either... Maybe try this??:

mount -uw /
rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/****.kext

10.6.1... Trying to get to 10.6.4

All,

I've got a Gigabyte G31M-ES2L and I'm currently running 10.6.1. I've tried taking a few updates (10.6.2 and 10.6.4) "naturally" via Software Update, but I keep getting Kernel Panics. At this point I've tried removing the /Extra/Extensions/SleepEnabler.ktext file with no luck. Does anyone have an idea on why I get a panic without this .ktext? Even after I've removed the .ktext from the system, I get the same error?? Does the system still think I have the SleepEnabler.ktext in the /Extensions folders???

Also, I am using SuperDuper! to create a bootable clone of my MacOS before I test any updates... If I boot into my clone backup and then try to update, there is no going back... As in, the bootable drive now has the 10.6.X update and causes an immediate Kernel Panic causing me to trash the new clone and start all over... Does anyone have a better way of "testing" the Apple builds? Is it possible to recover via "-x" or safemode?

What's Under the Hood:
Gigabyte G31M-ES2L
4 GB DDR2 SDRAM
nVidia GeForce 8600 GT
SONY DVD RW DRU-720A
AppleUSBUHCI
Apple Bluetooth Software Version: 2.2.3f8
