I think no mac backup software will save the mbr or bs, as macs dont rely on that for booting.
So for using Time Machine and the like you need a bootable usb or cd with chameleon to be able to restore the partition and then reinstall the bootloader.
Or else you could try clonezilla or acronis but probably you would need to do a sector by sector backup.
