if its GUID my bet is its rdisk0s2, as the 1st partition is the GUID table.

macprodan 02-19-2008 11:18 PM

by the way, the install has never finshed for me, I just hoped it had done all it needed to do. I formatted as all Zeros and tryd both MBR and GUID.. Im stuck and ready to pull my hair out.

zephyroth 02-19-2008 11:19 PM

OK rdisk0s1 is dedicated to GUID partition table.
The first usable partition to install Leopard (with GUID) is rdisk0s2 (so this is your partition).

Retry and type rdisk0s2 instead of rdisk0s1

macprodan 02-19-2008 11:42 PM

on ./startupfiletool command got filesystem not cleanly unmounted.

macprodan 02-19-2008 11:44 PM

did fsck /dev/disk0 and got Superblock not found or somthing.. Magic number wrong

CupofDice 02-19-2008 11:49 PM

First, all thanks to zephyroth for giving us amd users a chance.

Okay, just got finished reading through all twenty bloody six pages, and am downloading off of my at&t usenet account at a steady 134 kb on my slow dsl connection (should be done in 8 1/2 hours). I am wondering if that problem of a few rars not being complete is over with, and also I am downloading 10 files which are named differently than the other 73 files. Check here- http://www.binsearch.info/?b=Leopard-10.5.2-AMD-EFI&g=alt.binaries.mac.cd-images&p=zephyroth-osx86%40hotmail.fr&max=250 to see what I am talking about. Can someone explain this to me? Are those top ten files rars?

Also I read on a few pages before that this release includes the latest medevil kexts. My history is that I tried to install tubgirl months ago, but it couldn't get past the "creating partition map" when trying to format. Same problem with zephyroth 10.5.1. I installed the latest medevil kexts on that 10.5.1 disc, but got the "waiting for root device" error (so I am really hoping these kexts will work this time around). I am wondering if the problem of not being able to format my drive can be fixed with the latest medevil kext that is included in this release, or is my problem deeper than that? Anyone else ever heard of the problem of not formatting? After all my searching, I only met one guy at insanelymac with this problem.

Specs-
HP Pavilion a6230n PC
Asus M2N68-LA Motherboard (nforce 430)
3GB DDR2 SDRAM
Nvidia GeForce 6150 SE Graphics
Hitachi 400GB SATA

thanks for those who did answear my question!

macprodan 02-20-2008 12:03 AM

I removed my other Sata DATA Drive so now I have one, So wont go all dumb and get confused. I reformated the drive, yes again, as a single GUID Partition. It is installing now. I hope I get Lucky and it don`t hang at the end.

eddie11c 02-20-2008 12:04 AM

even if it hangs at the end, boot back up with the DVD and you can finish setting up EFI yourself.

How to: Fix the GUID bootloader (Blinking cursor)
There's an issue with the script that installs the GUID bootloader.

Easy to fix :

1 - Boot with the DVD.
2 - Press F8, then type "-s"
3- type "cd /usr/standalone/i386"
4 - type "dd if=./guid/boot1h of=/dev/rdiskXsY bs=512 count=1 (X is the disk number and Y is the partition number on which you installed Leo)

nope, b0 error. Command .5 did not do anything, said disk alignment error

macprodan 02-20-2008 12:37 AM

I can type those commands. Thank You. I have been using Hackintoshes from day 1 mate. I got my MacBook Pro that just works, But I would like to get a totally uptodate Hack for Me and the family to use. OK

eddie11c 02-20-2008 12:37 AM

MBR is the easier install, i think the script for it is working properly.

pαuℓzurrr. 02-20-2008 12:39 AM

Anyone has been able to fix the Still waiting for root device error? I've read somewhere i should try ide, but i don't have ide on my motherboard :(
I know the kext works with the DVD because i got it working 2/3 times myself with my own 10.5.1 DVD with the kext injected into the DVD, but i cant remember what 'special' thing i did to get it past the error, hope there is a other solution :)

YAAA! I fought with a GUID + EFI install for a couple of hours, then re-partitioned MBR + EFI and stinking 10.5.2 installed without a single hitch. Even my 8600GTS was fully supported ootb! I even made it through "account creation" without a working LAN Adapter. The only things I had to do after the install were: ALC880 (which I always have to do) and I'm now using a USB wireless LAN adapter (which I knew I'd have to install the software for...)

Once I switched to MBR, it was the easiest install EVER...

macprodan 02-20-2008 12:46 AM

Working now :) I typed the commands again. I did not type them wrong last time, as I got error messages not related to them being inputed wrong. Mmmmm strange.

Thats a Lesson to everyone, Try and Try and Try again.. must have done about 12 installs at least. Thank for you patience Guys and Gals. I am gonna set up the Account now. I will report back how it goes.

macprodan 02-20-2008 12:53 AM

100% Working. :) Thanks Dudes.

eddie11c 02-20-2008 01:01 AM

Grats macprodan! glad to hear you were able to get it working.

zephyroth 02-20-2008 01:03 AM

Xxp/TuX 02-20-2008 01:13 AM

macprodan 02-20-2008 01:16 AM

Plus I learnt some new commands to add to YoJimbo archive. But most Important of all I wont have people nagging to use my MBP.

Hmmmm...No luck for that sound card. A friend told me that editing the AppleAC97Audio it colud work...Did you try this?.

optmsprim2 02-20-2008 02:08 AM

After getting over some initial bouts of stupidity i found that this release (from th tpb iso) works on my system OOTB completely. installed on a separate SATA HD with a freshly formatted single GUID partition and installed GUID EFI v8. the only weird issue is with memory and CPU id. system info IDs the processor correctly but lists only one core, although activity monitor does show two separate and independently operating windows for cpu activity. also my ram is listed at 667 MHz in sysinfo and about this mac. while i would love that my ram is most assuredly maxed out at 400 MHz. only other quirk is having to change my speaker setup to 2ch from 6ch in Audio MIDI setup.

specs:
CPU: AMD Athlon64 X2 4200+
MOBO: MSI K8N Neo-4f (Nforce4 chipset/LAN)
Audio: Onboard Realtek ALC850 (uses AC'97 from install options)
Ram: 2 GB 400 MHz 3-3-3-8 Corsair
HD: 1x160 GB Hitachi Deskstar SATA (Zephyroth 10.5.2)
1x160 GB Hitachi Deskstar SATA (Ubuntu 7.10, OSX can't mount this HD)
1x160 GB WD IDE HD (Vista)
1x500 GR WD USB HD (storage)
GFX: evga Geforce 8800 GTS 320 MB Superclocked
Optical: 1x LG 16x DVD-R/RW+- (can't remember model)
1x Pioneer 111D 16x DVD-R/RW+-
Display: 19" X2gen LCD monitor (VGA connection, ID as display)
22" Viewsonic VX2235m (DVI connection, correct ID in OSX)
Dual screen, Res Change, QE/CI all work

Options on install: 10.5.2 Nvidia Kexts, Nvinject 320 MB, Medevil nForce kexts, forcedeth LAN driver, AC97 audio, EFI_v8 GUID

thanks again zeph for this awesome release and support and everyone else too for being so helpful!

rock on

thanks for your reply!i didnt try to edit bcase i dont really know how to do it...

optmsprim2 02-20-2008 02:12 AM

freshcuts, i used to think sound didn't work on mine because it was set to 6ch in the Audio MIDI setup in utilities and when i would play something sometimes it would play and sometimes it wouldn't because it seemed to send the audio to the random channels that I didn't actually have. so if you haven't looked at that you may want to check it out. hope you get it working

dred 02-20-2008 02:17 AM

Okay I finally got it installed on IDE, I was never able to get SATA to work after restart with hitting F8 and then typing “mach_kernel rd=disk*s* -v”. I will have to go and try the boot loader fix on page 25 for GUI. My problem now is I have no LAN. I have Nforce 590 (MSI K9N Diamond board) I tried the Nforce drivers and I tried the south bridge via drivers along with the Forcdepth drivers. My LAN worked on 10.5.1 so did I do something wrong? Is there a way to copy the files from the 10.5.1 and use them on 10.5.2?

Thanks for the help

I have an Asus MB though not the same model and have always had problems with sound after an install, there is what works for me, I simply replace the AppleAzaliaAudio.kext with the one from tiger, or search online for an older ver. than what is included with leopard. Now I am not saying that this will fix you problem because your issues could be more than that but this is what works for.

They are on-line tutorials on how to replace kexts, let me know how it works out.

Thought I'd put my trials and success in

DLed from the usenet groups.

First install - missed the customize options - didn't want to boot

Second install - Checked appropriate options (New Kernel, VIA drivers, nVidia installer, GUID bootloader) - could never get past the HFS+ partition error. Tried all the fdisk stuff but no joy

Third install - Checked appropriate options same as above but with older kernel and MBR bootloader - booted right up. nVidia didn't want to work so I installed Zeph's installer from the wiki post-install and it took this time. Onboard LAN not working but Linksys USB Ethernet adapter working great. Onboard AC97 working. iLife/Office 08 working great after Marvin's Utility run (iPhoto "failed to load" crashes before running Marvin's Util).

Thanks Zeph! You da man!

Athlon 64 X2 3600+
2 SATA drives (1 w OSX, 1 with data)
