Is it worth to try with SB700 southbridge?

waiflih 07-28-2008 08:36 PM

Hi all

i'm having problems installing this version...

Amd Phenom 9750
MB ABIT AX78 with Chipsets AMD 770/ SB600
RAM Corsair XMS2 DDR2 2Gb (2x1Gb) PC6400C4DHX
GeForce 8800 GT Alpha Dog Edition

randomly i can run the initial setup (sometimes it just hangs after loading the kexts) and after it says "calculing remaining time" i see a yellow sign and a message telling me that the os couldn't be installed...

i tried all switches in any ways, but it's always the same

any ideas??

how do you see 8 core in activity monitor?

nfoav8or 07-29-2008 04:30 AM

@lungkao

no. I only see one core. In my activity window, I know it is recognizing both cores because it shows me two core activity windows.

how come my show only 1 core? when I have 8 core?

my mobo recognizing 8 in bios

nfoav8or 07-29-2008 06:14 AM

check your com.apple.boot.plist in Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration and let me know if any boot flags (kernel flags) are set.

Have you run Xbench yet? Is the speed noticeable?

I am not sure why it isn't recognizing it. I know the Mac Pro can have 8 cores (two quad cores) but they are Intel Xeon. I'm just guessing that they are all working just fine but not showing. OS X doesn't always look at your BIOS to tell it what it has available... if at all.

try booting with cpus=8 ;-) just for a laugh.

Oh by the way - there seem to be problem with SB chipset support on the install DVD - anyone having this chipset, i recommend putting kexts into Extensions folder on image before burning it. This install seem to work faster than my previous 10.5.2

And if i can ask - i know that new relase is being prepared. I wonder what will be the main changes ?
