You guys are on crack, my ALC850 worked with no changes with a fresh 10.5.2 install. :)

I have one question, the mobo is a factor about install/not install leopard?
I see that one guy with chipset nForce570 was able to install it but with mobo Asus in HD Sata. I have nForce560 chipset but mobo ... well its a strange mobo :S cpu-z say Fequene but manufacturer Acer So, if the mobo its a factor, what i need to edit? another question, that nforce5.pkg that its on the wiki, could work in tiger? i was thinking something crazy but need install tiger from vmware and that .pkg cya guys |
Zhephyroth Hello, I do not speak good English correctly, try adding to the iso AppleNFORCEATA.kext in /System/Library/Extensions, change permissions, but remains the same.
Thanks. |
Download this if your still having issues, let me know if it works for you, worked for me with alc850, but i included an 880.txt already for you
http://www.mrburns05.com/downloads/osx/ALC880patch.zip |
my alc 850 worked on 10.5.1 and 10.5.2, but i patched it with a linux dump anyways cuz it seemed a little crackly, now its fine

Okay I have everything working but my SH-S182D DVD drive is not recognized. any suggestions

Trying to install and seems like booting starting ok, however I'm getting several lines with "AppleNForceATA: phy connection failed" and suddenly my HDD (SATA2) stops working. Seems like it is trying to boot from DVD anyway and I get "SAM Multimedia: READ or WRITE failed'" and PC just freezes after some more lines.
I've burned ISO at double speed. What could be the problem? My Specs: MoBo: MSI K8N Neo4-FI/Platinum (MS-7125) Chipset: nForce4-Ultra CPU: AMD Athlon 64, 2000 MHz (10 x 200) 3200+, Venice S939 Graphic card: nVIDIA GeForce 6600 PCI-E (Asus EN6600) HDD: Western Digital RE WD2500YS HDD 250GB, SATA II, 16MB DVD: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4167B Thanks! |

The "AppleNForceATA: phy connection failed" 'error' is probably because there isn't anything plugged into a sata port, anyway, someone managed to fix the still waiting for root device error? :)
~p-J |
hey people. first of all mad props to zephyroth. This disk is the closest ive got to install on my amd machine. After a lot of adjustments (dvd and hdd on same ide ribbon) ive managed to get the installer to run throught to I minute left hang (Ive used the wikidiot reinstall guide and it had no effect, still died at the same point), then the screen turns grey, the apple loading circle shows and the machine powers off. The installer log shows dummy bless (or there abouts). On reboot in verbose mode I get the 'still waiting for root device' message. It doesnt matter if I try MBR or GUID, install with or without kexts, the install alwats ends up the same, I have also burned several disks using alcohol in windows and toast on a kalyway intel machine.
After lurking here and insaelymac for a few days the ive seen a few people with same problem and similar processors and the only theory ive come up wiht is that its a problem with the athlon x64 socket 754 family. Other than that i have no theories. If anyone has any ideas feel free. Heres the specs;- mobo-asus k8s-mx chipset- sis 760gx ram 2x512 pc3200 sound- using an external sb live (no kext required just plug and play after install) graphics -nvidia geforce 6600 128mb agp. hdd-ide 40gb Should probably mention I did have an extremely unstable tiger 10.4.6 install on this machine. Again thanks a lot zephyroth. Thanks. |

I have the same problem than fractal. My laptop is an HP Pavilion dv2164 with nforce MCP51 an a 120GB SATA, when boot from DVD all is OK until in the Disk Utility where recognice my HD but no my partitions, this ISO include the kext from Medevil for nforce sata??
What is the problem?? Sorry about my english I speak Spanish like fractal. |
something weird I found also is: I have 2 hd´s. 200bg for M$ windows, and files, and a 20gb for osx - for now -. When I erased my osx partition and remaded it, it was ok. But, when I finished installed osx and had some problems in the video configs, I decided to re-install it, and when I get to disk utility again to re-format the 20gb, guess what? my M$ windows vista partition - named system so far - got the name changed for disk0s01 (something like that)... I guess it was made when the bootloader was installing...
anyway I had no time to test the windows boot yet, but, in some few hours - God I wanna go home right now, can´t take this job anymore - I´ll be testing it and sending my reports. tchau! braid edit: oh and by the way: it seems nforce 4 lan is working fine, and ac97 sound too. Just tell me what the amd utility does? |
My Problems:
1- iLife08 is very unstable, i already downloaded the latest updates but it still continues going down when doing some process with it. 2- Sound suddently stops and i have to reboot to get sound again, sometimes it starts working again from nothing Cpu: Amd Atlhon Chipset: nForce4 Sound: Realtek Ac97 Configuration: Latest Toh Kernel Ac97 10.5.2 kexts |

freshcuts, did you drag and drop the "alc880.txt" , onto the AppleHDAPatcher1.20 icon/application, or did you open the application itself?
your only supposed to drag and drop the alc880.txt over the app icon, then it will popup and run its script and show you the output, at the end it should say "successfully patched" |
as I said i did it. Re-installed and use the 10.5.2 geforce + 128mb and here we are, 100% system working. sound ok, lan ok, video ok. Now tomorrow, its the programs trials... ~programs...hm... Ill put them into the test...
and windows partition is ok too. |
Ok guys. Please, Im begging now. Can someone please shed some light on whats going on with my system??
Ill try to explain best I can. If I boot from the 10.5.2 DVD it hangs on "waiting for root device". If i try 10.5.1 it boots the installer, but its VERY slow, takes 10 minutes to even recognise my hard drives and when I try to erase my partition I allocated for Leopard, it just doesnt do anything. Ive yet to actually install it and its driving me MENTAL!!! Please PLEASE someone help!! Specs: AMD 64 6000+ X2 Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-M55S-S3 (rev. 2.0), NVIDIA® nForce 550 chipset. 2 Gb Ram ATI 1900XTX 512 Graphics 1 X 80gig Sata HD 1 X 250gig Sata HD Plextor Sata DVD Drive |

I tried installing 10.5.1 but I had a lot of probs and no sound after install. Does that mean that my audio chip is doomed? :( |
@freshcuts
Did you try all of the ALC880 codec dumps (all the alc880.txt files) in the repository referenced at netkas.org? There are probably 7 or 8 different .txt files (codec dumps) for the ALC880. They are from various motherboards (but most of them are for Intel CPU MB's I think) None of them worked for my ALC880, but who knows... The only thing that has worked with mine is Taruga's "beta4some861_880Installer"... |
ok zephyroth
work great with tx1000 but no sound no graphic no lan and wifi(detected but cannot find network) other working |
Finally after some struggle with booting (my fault) and after applying widely known lines of code for GUID boot Leopard works without any problem. Everything works so far except printer, since it is not connected via USB. I can simply copy (or watch) my files from WIN XP HDD to Leopard HDD and this is fun :)
Now I see that Quicktime is 7.2.1 though it is written that ISO should have 7.4.1. So there should be 7.4.1 updater in this ISO, or something like that? :) Regarding Marvin utility. Should I patch every software install for Leopard or only those from Apple, or only software updates? I'm a little bit confused here. I've installed Skype without problems without Marvin, but wouldn't like to mess up with Quicktime install if I download from apple site. Thanks Zephyroth! |

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=32859 http://psykopat.free.fr/apple/AppleHDA/realtek/ none of them worked. I ve been trying to solve the no sound problem on my alc850 (asus a8n sli premium) for over one week now and i am beggining to think that there is no sollution... At least if i knew there isnt i could go and buy an external soundcard. Please share ane info thanks |

maybe sata doenst work well?
i installed on a ide drive fine... |
All I have is SATA. Like I said, 10.5.1 boot into installer but takes a LONG LONG time and doesnt format.
10.5.2 just hangs at "waiting for root device". I REALLY want this to work. I don't care about networking or sound or anything like that. I just want to dive into Leopard and try it out. :( |
then you should try it on a usb hard drive or on vmware because i think sata is not really 0sx86 friendly
|
My Leopard runs on SATA2 HDD drive, so actually this shouldn't be a problem. Try to google on "waiting for root device"

I had to replace in the iso the AppleNForceATA.kext (Medevil last version 1.0.3) by the one from the 10.5.1 iso (Medevil kext version 1.0.2). Zephyroth mentioned it in one of his posts 2 days ago (I had not seen it before...) Steps: Mount 10.5.1 iso Unpack the Extensions from 10.5.1 in ~/Desktop/ExtensionsOld: mkextunpack -d ~/Desktop/ExtensionsOld /Volumes/YourMountedISO10.5.1/System/Library/Extensions.mkext Mount 10.5.2 iso in read write mode: /usr/bin/hdiutil attach /"Your ISO File" -readwrite Unpack the 10.5.2 extensions in Extensions.mkext: mkextunpack -d ~/Desktop/Extensions /Volumes/YourMountedISO10.5.2/System/Library/Extensions.mkext Delete the Extensions.mkext in the 10.5.2 iso: rm -R /Volumes/YourMountedISO10.5.2/System/Library/Extensions.mkext replace AppleNForceATA.kext in the 10.5.2 Extensions folder: Drag and drop in finder Repair permissions: chown -R root:wheel ~/Desktop/Extensions/* chmod -R 755 ~/Desktop/Extensions/* Create the updated mkext file in the 10.5.2 iso: kextcache -a i386 -K /Volumes/YourMountedISO10.5.2/mach_kernel -m /Volumes/YourMountedISO10.5.2/System/Library/Extensions.mkext ~/Desktop/Extensions Unmount the iso and burn it. I used the instructions given here: http://osx86.wikidot.com/how-to-s#toc3 Good luck it this can help anybody! |
I think I know what my problem is. I unplugged both of my SATA HD's and left just my SATA dvd drive in place. I then tried to use a usb drive. But the EXACT same problems occured. I.e waiting for root device etc. So it has to be a problem with my Plextor SATA drive.
Is there any workaround? Perhaps making the install run from another partition or drive? Can that be done? |
try different bios settings for your sata dvd drive

I am going to try it on a fresh install with no audio drivers selected. thank you ! EDIT: nope not even on a fresh install.Maybe this release is not compatible with my audio chip or mobo... |
Hi, I can't install this version , it cannot start at all , I have tried with Zephyroth's mac 32 bit version, and everything was fine apart from the kexts for SATA, but now gives me the following message: "Local APIC version not 0x14 as expected" in the beginning and doesn't start the install
My system is : Acer ASPIRE 9304 (MCP51 chipset, Turion 56 , 4 GB RAM ,) |
When I want to install this version from the bios, my pc restarts automatically. Why ?
Thank you ! |
What do you mean install from BIOS?
After you enter and then exit BIOS, PC restarts - this is how functions the system. This is normal. |
When I say from the bios, I mean I want to install directly Mac before Windows starts. I insert the DVD I launch the boot installation but my pc restarts. The last line of Darwin boot before restarting is : HFS+ file:[system library/extensions.mkext.] from 422d690
Thank you |
just tried 10.5.2 rev1 and it hung on some CPU powersave kext. I'm not panicking;
the boot process after install did however :) will scrub some of those pesky kext's in /s and move along at a later stage. ( running dual Opterons in an MPC55 board called the KFN5D ) |
