Hello @ all

i need help on booting!
I installed the 10.5.2 AMD Version all worked fine, but i can't boot the system from HD!
I can only boot the 10.5.2 Version only from the DVD.
I use the Vista boot loader with EasyBCD 1.52 and have 1 Disk with 4 Partitions:

Partition 1 = Windows Vista
Partition 2 = Windows XP
Partition 3 = Mac OS X86 - 10.4.9 - Tiger
Partition 4 = Mac OS X86 - 10.5.2 AMD - Leopard

When i select "Entry 3" i see "Darwin/X86 boot V5.0.132 ...."
I see the 4 Partitions disk0s1, disk0s2, disk0s3 and disk0s4.

When i select -disk0s3- the "Mac OS X86 - 10.4.9 - Tiger" Version starts and all work fine.
When i select -disk0s4- the "Mac OS X86 - 10.5.2 AMD - Leopard" Version i get the failure (see below the Picture)
From DVD i can start the "Mac OS X86 - 10.5.2 AMD - Leopard" Version!

[cite] Protocol82:[/cite]I think I know what my problem is. I unplugged both of my SATA HD's and left just my SATA dvd drive in place. I then tried to use a usb drive. But the EXACT same problems occured. I.e waiting for root device etc. So it has to be a problem with my Plextor SATA drive.
Is there any workaround? Perhaps making the install run from another partition or drive? Can that be done?

your real problem is not your hard drive is the dvd because is a sata dvd ... just try it with an ide dvd ... i am telling you this because i have a sata dvd and have that problem waitin.... i put the dvd in my ide dvd and all just work fine very fast the installation... in my computer the installation took like 20 min... and sorry for my english .. is not my firts language..

Has anyone installed VMware or Paralellels Desktop on the Zephyroth's leopard 10.5.2 AMD and how is that working for you, I am experiencing kernel panics like crazy using each of those applications. Usually what is happenning is that the vitual machine will hang and then kill the host causing the panic.

note: It seem to hard drive access related. I am using a nForce590 chipset MB with SATA Hard drives. I would really like to be able to run one of these Apps because of the Windows apps that I like.

Thanks,

@lanxxx & eMatoS
It's not that... My own install gives me the "... not 0x14 as expected" every time I boot, but it's never stopped an install or a boot into 10.5.1 or 10.5.2. He's most likely using an unsupported or poorly supported chipset...

eMatoS 02-26-2008 12:02 AM

I have a Asus A8N-SLI with the latest Bios update. The only option I can change in the bios is ACPI enabled/disabled and S1 or S3.
I tried every combination without success.

BTW: I'm typing this from my iATKOS Leopard 10.5.1 with the AMD patch. Here everything works fine, and did the installation without any change from bios. But it feels a little slow, don't know why, maybe I'm just crazy.

Thanks guys!!

Yep there does seem to be a lot of people just praying and trying to install with out checking out if there is any chance of osx running on there system, but I don't blame them, at the thought of being stuck with vista as a main operating system I would do desperate things lol

Ya, I can promise you - it's NOT whether you're using APIC 1.1 or 1.4 (which is a COMPLETELY different thing than ACPI)...

But - you're probably going to need to "screen shot" the entire text of the error, kernel panic, or whatever in order for someone to actually help. (And "A8N-SLI" doesn't really help us to do anything but try to find specs on that MB by ourselves... Do yourself a favor and supply as MUCH information as possible (down to the chipsets used) - you'll probably get much more information in return.)

That's exactly the same error as mine! And I'm also booting the installation from a HD partition.
I'll try to burn a DVD and see what happens.

this is the screenshot, sorry for the painfull quality it's taken with my cellphone.

EDIT: you're right!!!! it passed that error, and then gave me another one, SAM Multimedia Error. I've checked and it's related to a bad DVD, so I'll try again, damned toast!

It's working fine now! thanks guys, and specialy Jojo. Everything's fine for now, I'll install some soft to check and I'll get back to you later.

cgsheen

eMatoS was correct.
I have an MSI K9N Diamond. Under the BIOS entry for "Power management features" is "ACPI function" enabled or disabled then "ACPI Standby state" S1/POS or S3/STR. The APIC entry is under "Advanced BIOS features".

The only help I need is figuring out how grub is loading the SLIC BIOS emulation for the OEM version of Vista I am testing so I will not include my other stats.
BTW, I do know that this is the wrong place to ask about grub so I am not expecting an answer on that. :)

Luck eMatoS, and everybody else.
Zephyroth, AWESOME release. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Best release soo far. Most of the things work.

THE biggest MAJOR problem I have with this release is, the fact that my onboard REALTEK AC 97 soundcard doesnt work. I usually hear a sound here and there. But mostly its silent.

I dont have a clue what might be wrong as Im not a native mac user, and/or how to install drivers on a mac.
I have some Linux experience tho, but soo far lack of mac knowledge remained fruitless in providing a fix.

Has anyone resolved such or simmilar problem with Realtek AC97 drivers on any motherboard?
My motherboard is mini form factor: Asus A8V-MX.

Hope someone has time to write a few lines regarding this issue.

Reinekis 02-27-2008 02:31 PM

I have Realteck ALC850 soundcard with AC97 drivers. I have no problems at all with sound. When installing Leopard I only have chosen AC97 drivers from the list. That's all.

I have the only problem so far. Every time I restart/start Leopard only English language remains in my Language Input Menu. I have to set again and again other two languages after restart to be able to type using them. And everything works ok until next restart/start of Leopard. I'm not sure if this problem was when I installed Leo, probably not, it has appeared later - I can't recall really. Anyone experienced this problem or knows where to search or how to solve this problem?

By the way, for sometime I couldn't solve the problems with finding the printer in Print and Fax Preferences (even it was identified in System Info) even after downloading latest HP sofware through Apple update. The problem was solved after I launched file "csregprinter" in System\Library\Printers\Libraries. Maybe this will help others who have similar problem.

I have a little trouble with my video card:

PS
All another things works very good, and in "About this mac" i see my videocard with right name and ram size, but videostreaming is too bad, screensavers works steply(with a low fps)

No alc850 sound on my ASUS A8NSLI SE either, I could never get it to work. Not in Tiger, not in Leopard, no matter which AC97 kext I've tried. It appears in the preferences pane but will not render any sound.

mauror 02-28-2008 05:19 AM

As soon as I boot the DVD it says: "system config file 'library/preferences/systemconfiguration/com.apple.boot.plist' not found. Has this happend to any one? I'm using an Acer Aspire 5520-5912.
One thing that I saw is that when I explore the DVD from vista it only finds eight file which are less than 1 Mb.

eMatoS 02-28-2008 07:07 AM

It's really strange that it works fine on my A8N-SLI and not on SE, Premium or Deluxe models. What's the damned difference????????

Here's a tutorial I found on a spanish forum, sorry for the typos, I'm latino:

Step 1: Going down :P

>>Start Windows
>>Go to Control Panel and open your Device Admin
>>Search for the Sound device (AC'97 something) and double click it.
>>Go to Details and write down these numbers:
VEN_XXXX mine is 10DE
DEV_XXXX mine is 0059
>>Reboot and get the hell out of there

Step 2: Back to heaven :)

>>Start Zephyroth's Leopard :D
>>Open a terminal
>>Login as admin (sudo su)
>>Go to this folder:
/System/Library/Extensions/AppleAC97Audio.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleAC97AudioIntelICH.kext/Contents
>>nano Info.plist
>>Find this line: <key>NVIDIA AC97 Audio</key>
>>Below you'll see something like this: <string> 0x026b10de 0x005910de blahblablah </string>
>>Add your vendor and ID here this way:
0x(here your dev ID)(and here your vendor) in my case it's 0x005910de
>>Save with Ctrl+o and exit with Ctrl+x
>>chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions
>>chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions
>>Reboot and check for audio output

Hi prateesh,

Blue screen is not normal. Try to boot with -v to see what error you'll receive and than check the forum to see if there is a solution to that error.

Blue screen is not normal. Try to boot with -v to see what error you'll receive and than check the forum to see if there is a solution to that error.
Looks like it wants to use the other video output (external ) happends with my Q45.

First of all, I'd like to join everyone and thanks Zephyroth for all the time he puts in this project. This release is awesome.

I installed 10.5.2, and everything seem good so far.

My specs:
OS X: Leopard 10.5.2 R1 by Zephyroth
Board: EVGA 131-K8-NF44-AX NF4
Memory: 2GB OCZ Platinum
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ Toledo
Graphic: MSI GeForce 7800 GTX 256 (now working with NVInject 0.2.1/10.5.2 kext also QE/CI)
Integrated Audio: AC97
HD: WD 160GB
DVD - IDE CW-8123-C Slot Drive from iMac

My install options:
MBR formatted in DISK UTILITY, Kernel 9.2.0, EFI (MBR), Forcedeth.kext, NVidia+NVinject, Azelia Audio (removed), NForce Chipset

The first time I used the AC97 but it didn't worked, so I tried Azelia, and it didn't worked either. From there I just deleted Azelia, and use the ALC850-Install.zip floating around, and this time it kicked in :).

BTW, I tried to use my Pioneer SATA DVD drive first to install from the DVD but got a "Waiting for root device" stuck. Using a IDE slot drive picked from a broken iMac here worked like a charm (just a bit noisy).

[cite] eMatoS:[/cite]That's exactly the same error as mine!

Hi eMatos,

I have exactly the same error as yours and still stucks at there now.
Would you pls tell me how to slove it? Thanks for your help!!!!!!!!!!

Hello, people. I really need help - I feel that I am almost there. This is my specs:
Athlon 64 3000+ (sse2 only)
nforce4
via chipset
GeForce 8500GT 512mb
LAN geforce onboard
HDs:
10G IDE - Tiger (10.4.9 tubgirl - works perfect)
80G sata - Vista
200 sata -part1: Leopard
part2: empty (for backup)
Problem:
Install kernell 9.0.0 (because of sse2 only proc), EFI v8 MBR, viasata kext, nforce 2/3/4/5
nforce lan, Zeph's nvinject.
Install go perfect.First boot - kernel panic wiyh EFI.runtime - deleted
Second boot - kernel panic with intelCPUpower... - deleted
Third boot - boots fine, but hangs with grey screen and mouse pointer rolling for hours ( tried to leave overnight - still the same - just hangs)
Already tried: -x -v -f in all combinations

Please, help me to figure out what I am doing wrong and how to fix it. Thanx.

Hey Freshcuts, I had the same problem with the same Motherboard as you and stumbled on a solution that made my sound work in Leopard 1.5.2:
In the bios configration disable the IEEE1394, enable the AC97 Audio BUT disable the game port and the MIDI Interrupts (AC97 = Enabled, Game Port = Disabled, MIDI Port Address = Disabled, MIDI Port IRQ = Disabled).
Once this is done, your soundcard should work with the AC97 Kexts you already modified, if not I will upload the kexts (with codecs) I installed on mine.

I hope this will help anyone with such a problem.

Maybe you are right K235, on my A8N SLI I always had that configuration in BIOS (I never used the game and MIDI ports on PC in my all life...) and audio with AC97 always worked from MacOS X 10.4.8 to 10.5.2...

So I may actually be on to something ;)

Now the only problem is to understand why those settings are impeding the ALC850 to work when turned on... a conflict between the MPU401 and the actual SP or maybe the fact that the MPU401 is obsolete and therefore (may) not being supported by OSX... that's the dilemma... I'll post some more findings as soon as I'll be back home, thinking of fiddling around with the IRQs and Memory addresses of the devices.

K235 and JoeTheWise
In my A8N-SLI I always had midi and game port active, and it always worked out of the box. Anyway, you should try, perhaps your motherboard gives different IRQ directions to ports.

My error was to install from my HD, so I burned a DVD and it worked fine. Hope that's your problem too.

Good luck!!!

I actually installed it from a DVD (burned at 4X) as well and believe me, there was no stone I left unturned, looked at more than a fair share of discussions and tried everything (including re-installing OSX about 3 or 4 times... sigh) - I guess it may be a "problem" with the Premium version of the A8N-SLI or maybe the date of purchase may influence this factor (newer versions of the motherboard???) - only ASUS would be able to track the issues... but somehow I do not think they'd like to be involved ;)

What about the Bios update?
It seems the last one is 1303, although some people got back to 1302 and older due to some issues.

Check the ASUS forum:

There seems to be manys problems with the onboard sound device, maybe there's a workaround for you.

I don't know where I got it from but my bios is rev 1604, and the official sites have the 1603 as last beta, maybe there's a newer version for the premium hidden in the net.
